Infantile political games and smokescreen propaganda by the so called “Prosperity Party of #Ethiopia” and their backers can not hide, by its endless lies, the strategic importance of #Eritrea, both as a location and for its huge available business opportunities in its shore and offshore , both for the region and globally too:

The Potemkin Party continues to double down on its campaign of war and unremitting hostility against Eritrea by dwelling on revisionist historical narratives and the deplorable denigration of Eritrea's legitimate, decades-old, process of decolonization achieved through unparalleled and precious sacrifices.
In this vein, one of PP's official mouthpieces - Fana Broadcasting Corporation - disparages, on its X account today, Eritrea's overall development policy and what it dubs as "stagnation of Assab".
Furthermore, it laments the loss of "Ethiopia's Red Sea coastline", due, in its warped mind, "to conspiracy of external adversaries".
These pitiful diatribes are symptomatic of the incurable war psychosis that has gripped the Potemkin Party for years now.
Indeed, it is obvious that the PP will require massive reconfiguration in its mindset/soft-ware for reason and sanity to prevail.
As it is, the antidote for its multi-layered malaise does not lie in the propagation of revisionist history; and/or in the flagrant violation of foundational pillars and principles of international law.
The fact is:
1. A regime that is presiding over an ailing economy where 68.7% of the population are classified as "multidimensionally poor" (WB terminology) in spite of massive international assistance; and,
2. That is seething under interminable internal costly conflicts of its own making;
is not in a position to pontificate to its neighbours about astute development policy or the fostering of good-neighborly ties anchored on mutual respect of each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
xitter.cf/hawelti/status/1970139…
The obsession/political frenzy of PP (aka Potemkin Party) officials to manufacture a non-existent regional crisis in pursuit of toxic and illicit "sovereign access to the sea" is perhaps at its zenith these days.
The barrage of daily disinformation/provocation whose hallmarks are:
i) stale revision and distortion of Eritrea's history (statements at Ceremony on "Promotion" of the regime's top military brass on Saturday);
ii) willful intent to tamper with cardinal principles of international law, including the sanctity of colonial boundaries; and,
iii) reckless saber-rattling;
belie the misguided priorities of a regime bent on incubating regional crises to deflect attention from its multiple domestic challenges.
The Horn of Africa Region does not need or deserve another bout of unnecessary and avoidable conflict and turmoil; afflicted as it is by a plethora of other debilitating problems. This is the unequivocal message that should be conveyed - in no uncertain terms - by all those who harbour sincere wishes for the welfare of the peoples of the region.

#Eritreans defend #Eritrea’s sovereignty across social media and other platforms not because its sovereignty is in dispute or needs proving, but to shield unsuspecting readers from the deluge of lies, fabrications, and shameless propaganda unleashed by #Ethiopia's Prosperity Party–paid disinformation merchants.
Their mission is to flood social media with deception, distort reality, and manufacture false narratives in the hope that repetition will make lies look like facts. Eritreans speak out to expose this propaganda for what it is before it misleads those who lack the time to separate fact from fiction. #EritreaPrevails

The killing of Ethiopian Orthodox Christians has become so normalised that it no longer makes headline news and never even appears in the nation’s government-owned media outlets. @_AfricanUnion @US_SrAdvisorAF @antonioguterres @BBCAfrica @StateDept @realDonaldTrump @RealCandaceO
At least 47 Orthodox Christians were killed in a late-night attack in Shirka Woreda, in Ethiopia’s Oromia Region, Borkena news reports. Armed groups surrounded farming families in their homes around 10:00 PM, blocked the exits, opened fire and set the houses on fire. Local sources told Borkena the attackers included local armed groups and others from the neighboring Bale Zone. Residents asked police to step in, but the outlet reports that officers did not act, saying they had no official orders. Families are now burying their dead among the ashes of their homes. Let us pray for an end to the persecution of Christians in Ethiopia.

Abiy Has 99 Security Problems, but Access to the Sea Ain’t One!
The Tana Forum @TanaForum was the brainchild of Meles Zenawi, established to discuss the security concerns of #African states. From its inaugural meeting onwards, the Forum identified several central challenges to African security, including:
1) State Fragility in #Africa
2) Managing Diversity
3) Nation-Building
Meles used the #TanaForum to highlight the importance of managing Africa’s ethnic, religious, cultural, linguistic and social diversity as a central issue affecting peace and security. He argued that diversity itself was not the problem; rather, problems arose from poor management, neglect, and a lack of equity, fairness and justice.
The Forum also called for discussions on why #African states were weak, what made them fragile, and what was needed to make them stronger. It also raised a fundamental question: How strong are states that are described as strong?
Fast-forward to 2026, and Abiy’s lightweight politics are on full display at the very same forum. He has used the platform to promote his stillborn idea that being landlocked constitutes an existential threat to #Ethiopia’s sovereignty, and that the solution is to negotiate away the sovereignty of other African states.
This is an anathema to the principles of African security. In fact, it is a textbook example of what not to do if the goal is a peaceful and secure Africa.
The irony is that the Tana Forum was not held in 2023 or 2024 amid security concerns in the #Amhara region, where the Forum is held annually.
Abiy Ahmed has 99 security problems at home, ranging from civil wars and ethnic-based politics to religious violence, a struggling economy, the rising cost of living, poverty, crime and a lack of leadership. Yet access to the sea isn’t one of them.
No wonder the presidents of #Djibouti, #Kenya, #Somalia, #Uganda, #Rwanda and others stayed away from this farce. He managed to hoodwink the Presidents of Ghana, Mozambique and Brundi this year.

What is happening in Saudi Arabia should serve as a warning to the UAE. It is just as vulnerable.
Worse: the UAE is a hostage trapped between two armed men—Israel and Iran. It cannot choose a side, and it cannot escape. Its leadership will not survive the choice.
Abiy Ahmed has tied Ethiopia’s fate to this hostage. His hyperactive wars against the Ethiopian people, his activities in Sudan with RSF, his Somaliland gambit, his Red Sea fantasies and wars—all depend on a patron that is itself trapped. Hence temporary.
When the UAE falls or is forced to submit, Abiy falls with it. His lifespan as a leader is limited to the lifespan of a collapsing ally. Like Mengistu to the Soviet Union.
Ethiopians should understand: their future is being mortgaged to a state that cannot secure its own.

United Nations Day: Remarks by Ms. Nahla Valji @nahlav , United Nations Resident Coordinator in #Eritrea 23 October 2026 | Asmara
On #UNDay in Asmara, UN Resident Coordinator Nahla Valji highlighted the partnership with Eritrea under the 2022–2026 Cooperation Framework: immunization coverage held above 95%, facility-based births rose to 85%, and progress was recorded in inclusive education, climate resilience, water access, and livelihoods. She stressed that these advances belong first and foremost to Eritrea, with the UN accompanying national efforts. By the end of 2025, 992 villages—more than one-third of the country—had been recognized as free from FGM.
Looking ahead, the next Cooperation Framework will be signed before year-end, built on national ownership and Eritrea’s emphasis on self-reliance.
She noted the challenging global context of proliferating conflicts and constrained development resources, while celebrating local innovation, young people, and creative initiatives. She closed by quoting Secretary-General António Guterres: “humanity’s future depends on our capacity to advance peace, development, and human rights together,” and thanked the Government, partners, and UN team as she marked her final UN Day in the country.

United Nations Day: Remarks by Ms. Nahla Valji, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Eritrea
23 October 2026 | Asmara
Excellencies, Distinguished representatives of the Government of the State of Eritrea, Members of the diplomatic community, Colleagues and friends,
Good evening, and welcome.
It is particularly good to see so many friends and partners of the United Nations here tonight.
UN Day gives us a moment each year to step back from our daily work and reflect on our organization. Because the UN is indeed OUR organization. It belongs to we the peoples, to the Member States who govern it, and to each individual whose life is touched by it.
We meet in challenging times. Conflicts have proliferated, and we are experiencing more extreme climate events than ever before. While the world seems able to find trillions of dollars for war and militarization, resources for development and humanitarian work have become increasingly constrained. The United Nations is being asked difficult but necessary questions about how we work and where we can make the greatest difference.
As we approach the end of our 2022–2026 Cooperation Framework here in Eritrea, it is worth reflecting on what this partnership has contributed to.
Led by Government, our partnership in the past years has contributed to routine immunization coverage remaining above 95 per cent. Facility-based births increased from 81 to 85 per cent. Some 87,000 children received support for inclusive learning and early education, and thousands of children with disabilities received assistive devices or rehabilitation services. We have also seen progress in climate resilience, water access and livelihoods, and in national planning and statistical capacity.
Behind these numbers are health workers keeping services running, teachers working with children, farmers adapting to difficult conditions and communities leading change. This progress belongs first and foremost to Eritrea. The role of the United Nations has been to accompany it.
We have also learned that working together makes a difference. By the end of 2025, 992 villages, more than one-third of villages in Eritrea, had been recognised as free from female genital mutilation. That took years, and it took communities, leadership, national institutions, international partners, and many parts of the UN system working together.
Before the end of this year, the UN and Government will sign the next Cooperation Framework. The draft reflects the Government's ambition and vision for the next five years of development in this country, and it builds on what we have learned together. Resources will continue to be a challenge. We will need to be disciplined about where the UN can make a meaningful contribution, work as one system, and help Eritrea widen access to financing, expertise and partnership in a way that respects national ownership and the country's longstanding emphasis on self-reliance.
There is a great deal still to do, and a strong foundation on which to build. Many of you saw some of that foundation in the Innovation Corridor as you arrived. Later this evening you will be the judges in our very own ‘Trashion Show’ showcasing creativity and sustainability. And if you look around this evening you will see the incredible work of artist Dawit Berhane. We are truly surrounded by talent tonight.
As part of our UN Day events, a discussion was held last week on artificial intelligence, and an important point surfaced: innovation has to begin with real needs, and technology matters only when people can shape and use it in ways that work for them. The young people with us tonight show there is no shortage of ideas or creativity in Eritrea.
I would like to give a special word of thanks to Salah Ahmedin, Chairman of NUEYS, and his team, whose partnership carried this initiative beyond Asmara to young people across all six regions of Eritrea.
Ladies and Gentlemen, in this moment all of us hope for peace and stability across our region, and for the conditions that allow countries and their people to focus on development and opportunity.
Let me end on a personal note. This is my last UN Day in Eritrea. There are still some months to go, so this is not a goodbye, but I do want to take this moment to say thank you.
To the Government of the State of Eritrea, thank you for your leadership and partnership throughout.
To our diplomatic and development partners, thank you for your engagement and support.
To my colleagues across the UN Country Team, resident and non-resident, thank you for continuing to find ways to work together and deliver. This has been a difficult year for parts of our UN family. Budget cuts have closed offices and cost some colleagues their jobs. These are real consequences for people who have given sometimes a lifetime of commitment and expertise to this work. To those colleagues, thank you for your work and your commitment to the values of the UN. And lastly a special thanks to my Resident Coordinators Office team who work tirelessly every day.
I feel deeply proud of the partnership we have built here, with the Government, with our partners and across the UN system. It has taken trust and a shared commitment to finding practical ways to support Eritrea's development, and I am confident we have put in place a strong foundation for the next five years.
Let me conclude by quoting our United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who in his message for UN Day said ‘humanity’s future depends on our capacity to advance peace, development, and human rights together’
So, tonight, let us celebrate the partnership we have built, the people who make it possible, and the opportunities that lie ahead.
Thank you for being here, and I wish you all a very happy United Nations Day.

The 2026 program highlights African women's significant creative contributions to the cinematic arts. Over the ten-day festival, audiences in the United Kingdom will see 25 films from 19 African countries, including new features, documentaries, and short films. We also discussed the possibility of showcasing Eritrean films next year to share the history of Eritrea, particularly the unique stories of Eritrean women. #FilmAfrica2026 #AfricanCinema #DiscoverEritrea #RoyalAfricanSociety #EmbassyMedia
