Mapped: Pakistan’s Metallogenic Zones 🗺️
Pakistan’s mineral deposits follow its tectonic history. This map shows the country’s main metallogenic zones and the mines and projects within them, marked as operational, development or exploration.
In the west, the Chagai-Raskoh Magmatic Arc hosts the copper-gold porphyry systems at Reko Diq, Siah Diq and Saindak. In the north, the Kohistan and Karakoram zones contain placer gold and antimony. The ophiolite belts are the main source of chromite, and the Sulaiman and Kirthar fold belts host lead, zinc and barite.

If you own one gold coin, you hold more gold than 72% of the world's family offices. Their most cited risk is geopolitics.
Yet gold ETFs drew a record USD 31bn in Q3, led by Europe and North America, and kept buying as the price fell in September.
The chapter on why is below.
Zinc in Everyday Use 🔍
Wind turbines, bridges, roads, crops and cars. Its biggest job is protecting steel from rust.
Mapped: Pakistan’s Rare Earth Potential 🌏
Rare earth elements are used in electronics, electric motors and wind turbines. This map shows where rare earth occurrences have been identified across Pakistan, grouped by deposit type: carbonatite, laterite and ion-adsorption clay.
In the north, occurrences are linked to the alkaline rocks of the Peshawar Plain and the Mansehra Granite. In the south, they are found in coastal black sands.

Major Copper Discoveries (1990–2023)
Of 239 major copper discoveries made since 1990, 148 are still not in production.
Out of those 148: 121 haven't completed a feasibility study, 12 have but aren't yet in development, and only 15 have finalized construction plans and begun building.

1/ Mining CEOs & IR teams: we don't need more geology. We need better storytelling. ⛏️

8/ Many slide decks are OK-ish, but not great. The best visuals I've seen in this industry come from @MiningVisuals ✨ They turn complex projects into stories people actually get.
Full disclosure: we liked them so much, we invested. 😉

Gold continues to play an important role in global reserves.
Central banks have been net buyers of gold every year since 2010, marking a significant shift following two decades of net selling.
Buying accelerated in recent years, with more than 1,000 tonnes purchased annually in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Since 2010, cumulative net purchases have exceeded the net sales recorded from 1983 to 2009.
This sustained buying underscores gold’s enduring role as a strategic reserve asset and store of value.
At Galiano Gold, we are proud to produce gold at the Asanko Gold Mine in Ghana and to be part of an industry producing a commodity that has held an important place in the global financial system for generations.

Ghana sits at the heart of West Africa’s gold landscape.
In 2025, Ghana produced approximately 6.0 million ounces of gold, more than any other country in Africa. Its long history of gold production and modern mining industry are rooted in the Birimian geology shared across West Africa.
For Galiano Gold, this story is centred on the Asanko Gold Mine, a multi-deposit operation on Ghana’s Asankrangwa Gold Belt. Asanko combines established production with continued exploration in one of the region’s most important gold settings.

China holds 56% of capacity at the world's 21 largest copper refineries, about a third of the global total.
Treatment charges, the fee smelters earn for turning concentrate into metal, have collapsed to zero for 2026, down from $21.25 a tonne.
Chinese plants keep running on sulphuric acid, a by-product worth more than 5,000 yuan a tonne of copper, according to Beijing Antaike.
Despite leading smelters pledging a 10% output cut this year, production rose 7.4% from January to April, with March setting a record 1.33 million tonnes.
