Here’s a concise breakdown of the different generations of sweeteners. Most studies never make the clear distinctions, so here goes: 1. **First Generation Sweeteners**: - **Sucrose (Regular Sugar)**: High-calorie sweetener that is widely used but associated with problems like obesity, T2DM, dental caries, and metabolic syndrome. - **High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)**: Another high-calorie sweetener commonly used in processed foods. 2. **Second Generation Sweeteners (High-Intensity)**: - **Aspartame, Sucralose, and Saccharin**: These artificial sweeteners have zero calories and can replace sugar and HFCS, reducing caloric intake. However, there are reports of adverse effects associated with their use. 3. **Third Generation Sweeteners (Sugar Alcohols)**: - **Xylitol (2.4 kcal/g) and Erythritol (0.2 kcal/g)**: Low-calorie sweeteners used for dental health. Xylitol is anti-cariogenic but has laxative effects. Both have lingering tastes. 4. **Fourth Generation Sweeteners (Natural and Low/Zero Calorie)**: - **D-Allulose**: A natural sweetener with sugar-like taste and additional functions. It falls into this category along with other low-calorie sweeteners. -**Monk Fruit**: High intensity, Natural, calorie-free sweetener from China and Thailand. -**Stevia**: South American plant with intense, calorie-free sweetness. The emergence of fourth-generation sweeteners, like D-allulose, adds to the options available.🍬👍

My Learnings from World Nutrition Summit 2026 Different Low-Carb Approaches. One Shared Mission. One of my biggest takeaways from the World Nutrition Summit 2026 in South Africa was the mutual respect among people advocating different approaches to low-carb nutrition. Some follow ketogenic diets, some advocate carnivore diets, while others are omnivores or do veg low-carb lifestyles. Yet, what stood out was the genuine respect & appreciation for one another's work. There was no need to prove that one dietary approach was superior to another. People openly acknowledged those who had contributed to their knowledge and professional journeys. There was genuine appreciation for the work being done by individuals across different parts of the world. The exchange of knowledge extended well beyond the presentations. The discussions revolved around nutrition science, clinical experiences, practical dietary strategies, lifestyle patterns and the challenges of implementing low-carb nutrition across different cultures. What particularly pleased me was the curiosity about India. Many were interested in understanding our traditional dietary patterns, the challenges of adopting low-carb nutrition in a predominantly carb-rich & grain-rice food environment & the work being done to improve metabolic health. On a personal note, it was deeply gratifying to see the appreciation for my own journey of 11 completed years of medication-free type 2 diabetes remission, now entering the 12th year, through a low-carb lacto-ovo vegetarian lifestyle. There was considerable interest in the extensive clinical and lab data I have meticulously collected over these years to document my metabolic health journey. To my knowledge no one in India at least have the kind of data I have. They can make big claims but no data means they cannot prove anything. It was equally encouraging to see the appreciation for our efforts to make low-carb nutrition more accessible globally, particularly through the Veg Low-Carbohydrate lifestyle course launched by Nutrition Network in association with Metabolic Health India®. For many attendees, the summit was also a dream-come-true opportunity to meet the people who had inspired their journeys in nutrition & metabolic health. Personally, I was delighted and privileged to meet Prof. Tim Noakes @ProfTimNoakes once again, along with several international friends, colleagues and professional connections. Reconnecting with familiar faces and building new relationships made the experience even more memorable. My biggest takeaway: We may differ in how we practise low-carb but we share a common purpose: improving metabolic health & helping people lead healthier lives. There is much to learn from one another when we approach our differences with curiosity, humility, openness & mutual respect. WNS 2026 reinforced something important for me: The low-carb movement becomes stronger when we learn from one another, appreciate one another's contributions, give due credits to our learnings and collaborate rather than compete. Many thanks to @JanaMRetief , Martiza @KarenHeath007 & the Noakes Foundation team for all the efforts taken in organizing this event again. @TheNoakesF @travisnoakes Looking forward to more & more.

David Thomas: The world's most useless creatures Pandas are the WAGs of the animal kingdom: superficially attractive, but talentless David Thomas Monday 05 December 2011 00:00 GMT Bloody pandas. Tian Tian and Yang Guang have come to Edinburgh and we're supposed to be thrilled and a little bit glowy at the internationally co-operative "ooh aren't they adorable?" mood-enhancing fabulousness of it all. But why? Pandas are useless, antisocial, frankly rather boring animals. Their rise to global triumph, as a symbol of all things furry, is a telling commentary on our obsession with appearance over substance; for saccharine sentimentality over objective reason and for wishful thinking over harsh reality. Essentially, they are the WAGs of the animal kingdom: superficially attractive in an obvious sort of way, but entirely lacking in any genuine accomplishment. As anything other than marketing tools, pandas are one of evolution's less successful products. Built to be carnivores, they actually subsist on a diet of almost exclusively bamboo. So they are severely under-supplied with the protein, fats and assorted other nutrients a decent steak would provide. Not that they could ever hunt any steak-bearing prey, because they lack the energy to do anything very much except stuff their guts with all the bamboo that isn't doing them any good. They are notoriously rubbish at sex and their physical limitations are so acute that they even avoid steep slopes as just a bit too much of an effort. That these ridiculous creatures have become the global symbol of wildlife preservation only illustrates the way in which the conservation movement so often appeals to the kitten-cuddling nitwits who pretend to love animals. A shark is an infinitely more impressive creature, perfectly adapted to the task of swimming, killing and eating and far more deserving of preservation. But since it lacks cuteness and since the creatures it eats sometimes include humans, it is oddly absent from animal-charity logos. Come to think of it, the shark would make a much better symbol for the Chinese government than the panda. For the past half century, the Chinese have exploited the West's baffling weakness for pandas to distract us from the true nature of successive Communist regimes. All through the brutally repressive years of the Cultural Revolution, Mao was lobbing pandas at Western zoos. Edward Heath, for example, brought Chia-Chia and Ching-Ching back to London following a trip to China in 1974, much as Neville Chamberlain brought a piece of paper back from Munich in 1938. Now we live in an age of undeclared techno-war in which an increasingly wealthy, muscle-flexing China is making massive efforts to steal Western patents, hack into government and corporate computer systems and undermine our cyber defences. China is arguably a far more dangerous adversary than the Soviet Union ever was. But what do we care about? We've got two bloody pandas.
Political analysts and lawmakers increasingly view China's "panda diplomacy" as more of a charming distraction than a meaningful barometer of bilateral relations, observes @Chellaney. project-syndicate.org/commen…

Cable stack ratios are one of the most confusing things in the gym and every manufacturer should agree to list the actual felt load. Let me explain: you walk up to a machine, and it says the 40lbs. But what you don't immediately know is the pulley ratio. If it's a 1:1 ratio, it's 40lbs. If it's 2:1, it's 20lbs. If it's 4:1 (yes, this exists,) it's 10 lbs. The higher the ratio, the more cable travel you'll have, the lower the felt load will be, and the more dynamic the movements you can do without making the stack jump. Most home gym pulley systems are either on a 1:1 or a 2:1 ratio. Some now are even adjustable so you have both. This video is a good explanation of the differences.

Generic semaglutide went on sale in India on 21 March 2026, at about ₹4,200 a month. That is one of five shifts now reformulating Indian food. Each one moves margin. Here is where: 1. Semaglutide goes generic & Satiety-Focused Formulation People on it eat smaller portions. Sell protein- and fibre-led formats in smaller packs at a higher price per kilo. 2. Artificial sweeteners lose ground FSSAI has proposed moving the “contains non caloric sweetener” statement to the front of pack. A clean front panel holds price. 3. The ultra-processed backlash Shoppers read the back panel. Replace sugar plus two bulking agents with one recognisable ingredient. 4. Less sugar, more protein Dual claims carry the widest premium: high-protein dahi, RTD coffee, protein bars. 5. Warning labels are coming FSSAI has proposed a red front-of-pack warning for foods high in two or more of sugar, salt or fat. Step sugar down 5–15% per cycle, before it lands. The common thread: you have to take sugar out without losing taste, bulk or browning. D-allulose does that. It is FSSAI-approved as a Novel Food, not as an artificial sweetener. It replaces sucrose close to 1:1 by weight and caramelises like sugar. In our assessment it is a strong fit in 7 of 9 Indian categories. In soft drinks and chocolate, use it as part of a blend. Sources: Dr Reddy's launch price, March 2026. FSSAI draft notifications, August and September 2026. FSSAI Novel Food approval, December 2025. Category fit is a supplier assessment; confirm in your own trials. #FoodInnovation #SugarReduction #FSSAI #FoodTech #Reformulation

One of my corporate team members bought a car yesterday (First day of Navratri) These are the exact moments I feel super proud of. I could not afford a car from my own income before 2020. Now my team members are able to do so 🙏😇

Every North Indian restaurant which serves vegetarian food is serving the same Dal makhni, Paneer Lababdar & Soya Chaap Gravies (including us) There has been no mass acceptable menu innovation which has happened in the past 15-20 years. This should change!

11 YEARS OF TYPE 2 DIABETES MEDICATION-FREE REMISSION On 27 September 2015, my reports showed: Fasting blood glucose: 152 mg/dL Post-meal blood glucose: 253 mg/dL On 6 October 2015, my HbA1c was 7.2%, confirming Type 2 diabetes. Now on 6th October 2026: HbA1c: 5.4% Fasting glucose: 88 mg/dL Fasting insulin: 5.84 µIU/mL 2-hour glucose: 97 mg/dL 2-hour insulin: 28 µIU/mL No medications. Sustained through a low-carb lifestyle, regular monitoring & long-term consistency. This is not a short-term improvement or one favourable report. It is more than a decade of maintaining Type 2 diabetes remission. The real achievement is not reaching remission but in sustaining it. More to come... – Metabolic Health India®

45 YEARS AGO: In Oct 1981 I launched the Amstrad TS35 - the world's first mass-produced twin-cassette audio system – it taped tapes! I got the idea when I saw a Sharp industrial tape duplicator in Japan. You can read the story in my autobiography at amstrad.com/?s=TS35 Amstrad had set the template, and in the years that followed, every audio manufacturer in the world – including the Japanese and European giants – produced twin-cassette audio units.
