my weekend codex project
people talk about zone exercise all the time but it's so tedious to keep your pulse exactly within range, given your heart rate is slow to react, noisy, and drifting over long sessions.
still, i wanted to try, and so far the results are quite promising. i used polar h10 sensor and some treadmill that supports ftms. i reverse engineered the protocol and made an iphone app that connects to both devices and acts as a pid controller.
your heart rate sets the pace, and the prediction algorithm tries to keep it within your desired zone, gently raising or lowering the speed, frontrunning a breakout. i chose first-order with a dead time as a model, because it takes a minute or two for your pulse to settle after adjusting the speed. it also usually raises faster than it falls.
I've found myself in need of something like the Macro/Steam Deck with programmable buttons. I've sort of settled on a 5" touchscreen powered by a pi (need a dynamic-ish interface and custom button labels) and these interfaces are starting to feel more real.
China now has 1.2 terawatts (TW) of solar capacity and built more solar in 2025 than the US has built in its entire history.
The US needs to build more solar, and fast.

I predict 50% of companies will need new leadership, because the old management style won't work in the era of AI. That's exactly why I'm seeing 95%+ of so-called "AI Transformation" initiatives fail. Most are bolting on AI pilots for functional tasks, but never touching the business core.

The pursuit of excellence does not need justification.
Mind boggling to me that I can make a thing faster and there's always people that ask "but why?" What kind of mentality is that? The pursuit of excellence does not need justification. Also, I find in so many cases, we can't know the impact of an improvement until we do it.
For example, one I've talked about before: Ghostty's high IO throughput has enabled terminal program (emulator and TUI) fuzzing at a speed thats incomparably fast to prior solutions. This has resulted in upstream patches to resolve issues in popular projects like btop, tmux, and more.
Speed enabled that anecdotally example that lifted the tides of adjacent communities that don't rely on Ghostty technology at all. I didn't predict this.
Make things better because they can be better and let the results naturally play out.
