CCA’s are often mentioned in tandem with “affordable mass” - an unrealistic expectation as I explain in the article below.
'Despite the fact that Collaborative Combat Aircraft are often presented within the framework of affordable mass, this is a poor approach to developing capability that is to sit within a hybrid 4.5th and 5th Generation combat air force.’
Read Christoph Bergs’ (@MilAvHistory) op-ed for @CalibreDefence.

'The question is not replacing conventional air power but rather where do uncrewed systems [like CCAs] solve operational problems at a better cost-effective ratio than crewed platforms.'

Kann man so rahmen. Kompliment an @MilAvHistory. Sollte in der deutschen Debatte grosszuegig als Lektuere herumgereicht werden.

🚨🇩🇪 My commentary on why “affordable mass” is an unrealistic approach to CCAs is now available in German via @hartpunkt 👇

Also available in German at @hartpunkt :
„Erschwingliche Masse“ ist ein unpassender Rahmen, um unbemannte Kampfflugzeuge zu beschreiben. System- und Bewaffnungskosten unterminieren die gängige Argumentation, wonach der massenhafte Einsatz unbemannter Kampfflugzeuge kostengünstig möglich wäre.

We have another article from Christoph Bergs (@MilAvHistory) over on the Calibre website. If you are following CCAs and their development, it's well worth a read - it tackles the concept of CCAs providing affordable mass, pointing to more realistic scenarios.

Doing my bid to saturate your timeline with more CCA content 👇
In this RUSI video commentary, Christoph Bergs (@MilAvHistory), Research Analyst in Airpower, examines the implications of the announcement that the UK has stated and placed budgets behind a Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) concept and the unveiling of @BAESystemsplc’ Brontonax – the UK's first CCA – at the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow.

Liebe Zuschauer, MTG wird beklaut. Auf Facebook hat sich der Kanal Militärchroniken gegründet und bereits mehrere Videos von mir hochgeladen. Das bin nicht ich! Bitte meidet diesen Kanal. Schaut ihn nicht. Danke Jens Wehner
I feel a great disturbance in the Force, as if two nations suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.
Why not “Cyclone”. It’s a tad more imaginative and hasn’t been used by yet by the RAF.

I am not saying that the worst part of the FCAS breakup is the ai-generated slop from professional Linkedin-ers we will see over the next few days…
…but I am also not not saying it.
With news that the 6th Gen Franco-German fighter in FCAS has come to an end, how realistic are Germany’s alternatives? I explored this recently w/ @linus_terhorst at @RUSI_org .

A reminder that the PLAAF is more than the J-16, J-20 & PL-15/17 spear tip. The KJ-2000 force may be small yet the AEW&Cs type force extends to KJ-200/500. PLAAF is training in larger composite formations incl. AEW&Cs and tankers.
