I also find this remarkable, coming from an historian of empire. You may well find the outcomes of the Russian and Cuban revolutions repugnant, but it's blithe sophistry to assert that this invalidates the revolutions themselves.

This is clearly a step twds some statement refusing to recognize Lula’s govt, a move that will likely be followed by economic sanctions just as happened with Venezuela. The Brazilian election was free and fair. This is an attempt to reverse them & to marginalize Brazil /n
As I reported hours ago, Flávio Bolsonaro has arrived safely in United States.
The mastermind behind this operation is U.S. Secretary of State @SecRubio .
From the United States, free and safe, Flávio will lead the opposition against Lula.

This is nonsense. You may have taken a leave of absence but you remain a peer and you can sit in the Lords again. You enjoy a formidable network and considerable influence because of that status.
It's a revolving door and you are cynically swinging through it.
Mr Polanski, I know you have a reputation for being scrupulous about checking your facts, but you’ve missed an important detail.
My contract requires me to remain on leave from the Lords, surrender my parliamentary pass and forgo all access and voting rights for the duration of my employment at Palantir. I do not, therefore, take any whip.
I fear this makes me rather less useful to the whips’ office than you imply.

She may sound a bit like your music teacher at school, but Judith Durham has one of my favorite pop voices.
“Let’s make this the one.” That’s what it genuinely feels like in the studio, on a good day when you have a good song, and everyone there.

"I think it's weird how few people are troubled by the gist of the antisemitism defense. If you say that asking about support for Israel is an antisemitic attack on your religion, then at some level you're suggesting -- or at least encouraging the inference -- that the far right Israeli government's form of Judaism defines or informs your interpretation of Judaism. There are lots of Jews that don't subscribe to the Israeli government version and when you ask them about Israel, they don't respond by saying, 'how dare you attack my religion?'"
Their level of un-self-awareness is off the charts, lol.
I think it's weird how few people are troubled by the gist of Sayed's Islamophobia defense. If you say that asking about support for the Muslim Brotherhood is an Islamophobic attack on your religion, then at some level you're suggesting -- or at least encouraging the inference -- that the MB's form of Islam defines or informs your interpretation of Islam. There are lots of Muslims that don't subscribe to the MB version and when you ask them about the Muslim Brotherhood, they don't respond by saying "how dare you attack my religion?"

A poignant #Newsnight on Aberfan which underlines the contempt working class people are treated with by authority in the UK to this day. Emotionally sensitive & literate reporting by @vicderbyshire who is a skilled, appropriate & nuanced interviewer.

Gaynor Madgwick, a survivor of the Aberfan disaster which killed 144 people, including 116 children, recalls the events of that day, 60 years on.

Watching journalists cover a BS flying Tesla car instead of the deaths of women and children in Ukraine because Starlink was slowed down is disgusting.
It's absolutely disgusting.

EXCLUSIVE: Elon Musk came to Donald Trump with the plan to throttle Ukraine’s use of SpaceX’s Starshield satellite internet network, sources have told the Telegraph.
The tech billionaire made the proposal during the US President’s row with Volodymyr Zelensky over strikes on Russian oil refineries.
‘The reality is that they were both in it,’ a senior source said of Musk’s and Trump’s involvement.
But after a night of carnage in Kyiv caused by the slowdown, Musk was alarmed about the possibility of adverse consumer reaction in Europe.
The SpaceX boss then proceeded to tweet, blaming the US administration, and ultimately, President Trump for authorising the slowdown.
‘He tweeted out that he was innocent and that it was the US administration that did it,’ the source said.

Antisemitism is serious.
That’s precisely why it should never be weaponised as a political football. Labour doing so should disgust people across every community.
And all this while they continue to arm a genocide and lock up pensioners.
Antisemitism is a cancer in our politics.
We fought hard to root it out of our party.
We will not stand by and watch it infect public life again.

The racist abuse my friend and colleague @MothinAli has been subject to over the last week is appalling and unacceptable.
Enough is enough - our party won't be engaging with the Telegraph until they apologise for their racist and antisemitic cartoon. Mothin - we're with you.
The UK Green Party has said it will not engage with The Telegraph after the newspaper published a "racist and antisemitic" cartoon depicting deputy leader Mothin Ali (pictured) preparing to devour the severed head of party leader Zack Polanski.
“The Telegraph is pushing Islamophobia and antisemitism to try and divide our movement, but it won’t work," Ali said in a statement shared with The New Arab.
"Zack, myself and our entire party are united in support of Palestinians and against the racist drivel the Telegraph spouts.”
