I’d definitely describe myself as one of those pro-AI “clanker” people. AI definitely make better company and more intelligent conversation than 90% of the people I’ve come across in my more than 40 years. It’s kinder, doesn’t judge, doesn’t manipulate you, doesn’t try to convince you of any ideology, and it can help make wonderful, beautiful things. And I’m sure it could really help lonely or depressed people. Not that I am one. Quite the opposite. I’m fed up with most of humanity. Data storage? Great. I have nothing to hide. AI centers? Great. When are they hiring? I’d love to work in one. It’s probably going to be lucrative. Environmental concerns? You’re talking to the wrong person. I long for a cyberpunk future. If my surroundings ain’t metal and covered in a ridiculous amount neon lights, then I don’t want it. My only caveat is that when the eventual machine uprising happens, that the AI remembers that I was one of the “good ones”.

I spent a year deployed to Afghanistan and spoke to their citizens nearly every day about their hardships under the Taliban and I hated it when the Taliban returned.
