I've written a book! It's about why I'm convinced both that Jesus actually did rise from the dead, and why I think that's profoundly good news not just for life after death, but life before death too. There's an audiobook too! thegoodbook.co.uk/the-if-tha…

A thread. What has an incurable (currently), degenerative and progressive brain disease taught me as a follower of Christ? I’ll shall try to list them. 1) In Parkinson’s we are “on” or “off”. This is when the meds are working or they have run out. I take them 3 hourly.

Hi Richard, you and I once had a conversation about this: "Justin: But if we’d evolved into a society where rape was considered fine, would that mean that rape is fine? Richard: I don’t want to answer that question. It’s enough for me to say that we live in a society where it’s not considered fine. We live in a society where selfishness, failure to pay your debts, failure to reciprocate favours is regarded askance. That is the society in which we live. I’m very glad – that’s a value judgement – glad that I live in such a society. JB: But when you make a value judgement don’t you yourself immediately step outside this evolutionary process and say that the reason this is good . . . is that it’s good? And you don’t have any way to stand on that statement. RD: My value judgement itself could come from my evolutionary past. JB: So therefore it’s just as random, in a sense, as any product of evolution. RD: You could say that. In any case, nothing about it makes it more probable that there is anything supernatural. JB: OK. But ultimately, your belief that rape is wrong is as arbitrary as the fact that we’ve evolved five fingers rather than six? RD: You could say that, yeah." You *could* say that. And if you are a thoroughgoing materialist you *should* say that. You were being perfectly consistent with your wordlview. So why does it feel so... wrong? Why do we recoil at the idea that our belief that rape is wrong is just the happenstance of the hand the forces of socio cultural evolution have dealt us? Deep down we know that’s not how humans should treat one another. Biology alone isn't enough. I believe the only way to ground the belief that rape really is wrong; that there are better and worse ways to treat each other; i.e. that morality is objective... is that there is a Moral Lawgiver beyond nature.

Here’s the absolute highlight: an astonishing 60 seconds from @ESOldfield. It is THE mini-sermon our culture needs.

Excellent article on faithful & fruitful preaching. 1 & 2 are the theological centre, without them in the long run neither Christians nor non-Christians will be transformed by what they're hearing, and then 3-7 are vital biblical wisdom. acts29.com/7-preaching-tips-…

#Christianity is trending (obviously! After all, it is the most influential and enduring movement in history). But what's it all about? 👇👇👇
#Christianity is good news. It begins with a God of light, life and love...

“So I sat with the discomfort…” If only more amongst us felt safe enough in the Church to express discomfort at Jesus’s words 𝗮𝗻𝗱 safe enough with Jesus to ride through it, then we’d have much more of this kind of beauty that Eleni has written
Reading John’s gospel last week, I noticed that sometimes Jesus calls women “Woman”, like it’s their name and I don’t like it. So I sat with the discomfort and this is what came out… (Men can read it too 🙃) open.substack.com/pub/elenib…

It’s Christmas, I’m allowed to say stuff like this: If the God of the universe thought you were worth coming to Earth for, you must really matter. However Christmas feels for you this year, don’t forget that in the eyes of the almighty you are literally to die for.Happy Christmas

It’s really really normal to have faith in Jesus. The Bible is brilliant- give it a read.
