Two Klansmen drove around Mobile, Alabama looking for any Black person to kill. They found a 19-year-old walking to the store for cigarettes. His mother spent the next six years dismantling the Ku Klux Klan in a courtroom. Michael Donald. March 1981. They beat him, killed him, and hung his body from a tree on a residential street, across from a Klansman's house, so the city would see it in the morning. Police initially suggested it was a drug deal. It was not. It was a Klan retaliation for a jury's failure to convict a Black defendant in another case — a life taken at random to send a message. Beulah Mae Donald refused every version of the story except the true one. She pushed until the FBI reopened it. One killer confessed. The other was executed in 1997 — the first white man executed in Alabama for killing a Black person since 1913. Then she did the thing nobody expected. She sued the United Klans of America itself. In 1987 an all-white Alabama jury awarded her seven million dollars. The Klan had no money — so it handed over its national headquarters building. The organization was finished. A mother buried her son and bankrupted the Ku Klux Klan.

On April 22, 2018, James Shaw Jr. walked into a Waffle House in Antioch, Tennessee, expecting nothing more than breakfast. Minutes later, g*nfire erupted inside the restaurant. Four people had already lost their lives, and the g*nman was still carrying an AR-15 style rifle. Most people would have run. Shaw made a split-second decision that changed everything. Unarmed and acting purely on instinct, Shaw charged the g*nman. He grabbed the rifle by its burning hot barrel with his bare hands and fought to take control of the weapon. His hands were badly burned, but he refused to let go until the rifle was out of the attacker's hands. The g*nman fled, and Shaw's extraordinary courage almost certainly prevented even more innocent people from being k*lled. The country praised him as a hero, but Shaw never accepted that title. He said he was simply trying to survive and protect the people around him. Instead of seeking fame, he launched a fundraiser that collected more than $200,000 for the victims' families. He continued speaking about healing, kindness, and supporting communities affected by violence. Today, the headlines have faded, and many people no longer remember the man who risked everything for complete strangers. But courage like James Shaw Jr.'s should never be forgotten.

An anonymous complaint led to a ‘misconduct’ investigation into Nolan Wells’ mother, Christine Wells Wonsley. Today, that case was closed. A grieving mother should never be targeted for seeking answers about her child. 🎥: @attorneycrump

Sixty-one years ago today, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was signed into law after years of organizing, sacrifice, courage, and disciplined nonviolence. It was not a gift from those in power. It was won by people who marched, resisted, endured violence, and refused to accept disenfranchisement as the price of citizenship. That legacy places a responsibility on us. As voting rights continue to face new restrictions and attacks, we must protect access to the ballot, challenge voter suppression, and defend the voice of every eligible voter. Democracy cannot endure when the right to vote is weakened. The work continues. #VotingRightsAct #VotingRights #MLK #Nonviolence365 #BelovedCommunity

Today marks the 61st anniversary of the Voting Rights Act. Signed into law on August 6, 1965, it outlawed literacy tests, poll taxes in federal elections, and other obstacles to voting. The Act led to dramatic increases in Black voter registration.

In 2023! Delta Airlines hosted an all-Black flight crew. One of the attendants was so surprised by this feat, that they’ve reportedly all NEVER witnessed before. They had to capture the moment! Representation like this matters. We love to see it.

Everyone is susceptible to sunburn and skin cancer, no matter how melanated their skin is. For protection, dermatologists recommend using sunscreen with an SPF of at least 3️⃣0️⃣ before starting your daily activities, even if it’s cloudy outside ⛅️ Scroll to learn the how, what, why & where of sunscreen application & then go grab your favorite brand and put some on 🫵🏾😉 #sunscreen #skincare #researchmatters

Sandra Bland was a 28‑year‑old Black woman, a Prairie View A&M graduate, and an outspoken voice against police brutality. 11 years ago today, she was jailed after a Texas traffic stop; three days later, she was found hanging in her cell. Her death was ruled a suicide, and no one was ever held accountable. Sandra used her “Sandy Speaks” videos to talk openly about racist traffic stops and the daily reality of police violence against Black people. She was more than a hashtag or case file—she was a daughter, a friend, and a truth‑teller. Rest in peace, rest in power, Sandra Bland ✊🏾
