Thank you to all for recommending my book How To Argue With A Racist these last few days. As I say in it, it’s a shame that it’s needed, and this summer more than ever. £5

Getting quite worried that the new government policies are leaning further and further towards austerity. This did not work last time, and it certainly won't deliver growth.

I'd like people's opinion. If you are reviewing a paper and it is fatally flawed, do you still go on to review it in detail? I tend to, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I may be wasting my time.
Very nice paper about host genetic impact on the microbiota: microbiomejournal.biomedcent…
Excellent Research Fellow job opportunity at QUB, for someone keen to use a variety of different microbiota skillsets (culturing, bioinformatics etc.) and work on a variety of livestock projects. Also has the opportunity to work with industry partners. hrwebapp.qub.ac.uk/tlive_web…

Odd question for the chicken people. I have read an old paper saying that if you place suspensions on the chick vent it will suck the material inside itself and it can travel to the caeca by peristalsis. Anyone tried this with faecal/caecal transplants, probiotics or prebiotics?
Our newest preprint is now available! We find that infectious bronchitis virus vaccination, but not the presence of the XCR1 gene, is correlated with large differences in the chicken caecal microbiota @BioMickWatson @LVervelde @roslininstitute. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
