BREAKING: CNN just interviewed a former linebacker on Coach Walz’ high school football team, and he made it clear, he would not have finished high school without Coach Walz. Retweet so all Americans see this remarkably powerful.

Happy International Women in Mathematics Day! Maryam Mirzakhani won the Fields Medal in 2014 for her important contributions to geometry and dynamical systems. May 12 was Mirzakhani’s birthday, and now it is a day to celebrate all women in the mathematical sciences. #WomenInMath

What a great task and a great concept! #iteachmath
Not surprised. When I looped with a group of 7th to 8th graders, on the VERY FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL, students work in groups to investigate the question of whether $1,000,000 could actually fit in a suitcase and then presented their work to the entire cohort. It was incredible.

Nice article @JBayWilliams!
Excited to have an article in Educational Leadership focus issue "Can STEM Save the World?"! I share 3 math teaching actions to EXTINGUISH and 3 to EXPAND. Guess what's on the lists. #mtbos #iteachmath Reimagining Mathematics to Save the World ascd.org/el/articles/reimagi… via @ASCD

I’m sometimes asked what initially drew me to the field of early childhood education. From now on I’m just going to show people this video. Bottom line: there is no more joyful an experience than being in community with young children. Their enthusiasm, wonderment, and kindness is unmatched. 🎥 via nobaddays2024 on IG.

Yes, there are many conflicting goals in the HS -> College transition pathway: High HS graduation rates, "rigorous" course taking in HS to gain college entry, #s of HS students enrolled in AP courses, proper college math course placement and ultimately graduation.
Replying to @MichyC314
It's pretty easy to propose that we "slow down" students and let them learn at their own pace while giving them the support they deserve. But we as a society are not prepared to do that. We are pressured to raise graduation rates and push students along no matter what. #MTBoS

"The solution is simple: slow down. Reinforce half-finished foundations...and let the ones with algebra deficits take courses that meet their needs, rather than rushing them into calculus." Thoughts on this math people? thehill.com/opinion/educatio…

In many ways higher ed has created this problem. Admissions wants to see "rigorous coursework" from applicants. Yet mathematicians and other math educators, having seen the outcomes from this so-called "race to calculus," are left to deal with the fallout from this push.
