We’ve got something BIG to share 👀 Sacramento State is planning to build a downtown Capital Campus right in the heart of Sacramento, and a $50 million investment from @Meta allows us to get started. This project will create new spaces for students to learn, connect, and prepare for real-world careers while studying right next to the California state capitol in the world’s 4th largest economy, bringing new energy, innovation, and economic growth to downtown Sacramento. 🚀 A historic moment for Sacramento State and downtown Sacramento. 🎉 We are proud to announce Sacramento State has secured $50 million from @Meta in partnership with the State of California, @CalifDGS to advance a first-of-its-kind 2 to 5 million square foot mixed-use downtown development that will create a new Sacramento State Capital Campus. This will be steps from the State Capitol serving students, faculty, staff, and the broader community while driving economic growth for the entire region. This transformational project is made possible through strong public-private partnerships and visionary leadership. Thank you to Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, and the Meta leadership team for their continued commitment to innovation, workforce development, and the future of our communities. We are also deeply grateful to @CAgovernor @GavinNewsom, the California Department of General Services, and DGS Deputy Director Jason Kenney (Sacramento State alumnus) for their partnership and leadership, including securing the funding to help reimagine this site for the next generation. Special thanks as well to Sacramento State’s Michelle Willard for her leadership, collaboration, and support in moving this bold vision forward. Together, with the support of business leaders including the @DowntownSac Partnership, Michael Ault, Scott Ford and the Greater Sacramento Economic Council (@sacregion), Barry Broome, the Sacramento @Metro_Chamber of Commerce, elected officials, including Congresswoman @DorisMatsui, State @SenatorAshby as well as @MayorMcCarty and our community, we are building a transformational economic engine for downtown Sacramento and setting a new national model for urban, university-led economic development within the @calstate system. Sacramento State and the California Department of General Services (@CalifDGS) announced today that the University will evaluate and perform due diligence to pursue a state-of-the-art downtown center near the State Capitol, an innovative partnership to boost the downtown economy, bring added housing, and expand opportunities for Sacramento State. The proposal would bring Sacramento State students, staff and faculty even closer to the State Capitol, offering students an unprecedented opportunity to learn and shape their careers mere steps from the seat of government of the world’s fifth-largest economy. DGS has granted a period of exclusive rights for the University to evaluate the real estate and the properties to ensure financial viability. While currently at the concept stage, the project would entail the transfer of the Employment Development Department (EDD) Headquarters Building, the EDD Solar Building, and the State Personnel Building – all located along Capitol Mall between 8th and 9th streets – to Sac State for the new center. "The Department of General Services is eager to explore Sacramento State’s vision for a downtown campus encompassing education, hospitality and housing that will bring renewed energy and an economic boost to the capital city." -- DGS Director Ana M. Lasso "We want to thank the State of California Department of General Services for granting Sacramento State a period of exclusive rights to conduct due diligence on this property. Sacramento State is the only public university in the capital of the world’s fifth-largest economy, and we are committed to exploring an innovative and cost-effective mixed-used development of a downtown center" -- Sacramento State President @DrLukeWood To read more from Sacramento business leaders and elected officials: sacstate.me/3XF3AU7
