The New Zealand government is pulling back on protecting Māori rights, sparking protests from indigenous lawmakers who oppose the decision with their traditional “haka” chant.
This is powerful.

This morning, I was at @QUBelfast to deliver a class with @joanne_sansome to @QUBSSESW on disabled life.
I spoke about the medical model v social model of disability, education, accessibility and transport.
Plus, I told a few yarns about Duke of York, Stansted Airport, and Disneyland Paris!
Thank you to @BronaghByrneQUB for the invitation to speak about our life experiences to educate the future and to reinforce the importance of the UNCRPD.

The women of our place are amazing.
We deserve so much better.
It is a stain on every citizen that this is the most dangerous place in Europe to be a woman.
Not safe in our homes, not safe on our streets.

I am devastated for the millions of people whose lives are not going to get better over the next four years. But I’m also devastated that the USA continues to choose a mediocre man, despite his criminal record and history of assault, over a competent, qualified woman.

Today is the last day for us to #DoSomething to get @KamalaHarris elected! What a remarkable few months this has been — in record time, she’s built an extraordinary campaign, set forth a clear policy agenda, and proven again and again that she will be working not for herself, but for you. She’s done it all with intelligence, integrity, and grace. She has gone above and beyond. She’s more than done her part.

If you’re still on the fence about voting in this election, think about what really matters – about the values we were taught, the kind of country we want to be, and how this is a moment when your vote really does count.
Your vote could determine the fate of our republic – the world that our children and grandchildren will inherit. It’s an awesome responsibility. But what an extraordinary privilege it is to live in a democracy that gives each of us the opportunity to make our voices heard.

Apparently this (of course nameless fella) responding to Sinead thinks it is too much to ask or to expect it to be possible to end violence against women. Not even a realistic aspiration according to him.
We aren’t safe at home or out so…tough??

Knowing for the past few weeks that this moment was fast approaching didn’t make it any less heartbreaking to hear the news early this morning that Janey had died.
Janey Godley truly was a force of nature, and one of the funniest people I have ever known. I was able to visit her in the hospice a couple of weeks ago and though she was fragile, she still had me in stitches.
Janey was also incredibly kind. And she made the world a better place.
A bond was forged between us in the darkest days of Covid when her famous voiceovers of my daily briefings went viral. In the toughest of times, she made people laugh - and that was precious. She did more that that though. In managing to project the serious public health messages of my briefings to a much wider audience than I would have managed alone, she helped save lives.
The photos on this post are from an event we did together last year - it was a special night.
I was so proud to call Janey a friend and will miss her hugely. My heart goes out to her family and many friends - they are in my thoughts today.
I know Frank will have been there, holding the door for her as she went - with a tear in his eye, as I have in mine. RIP my friend ❤️

Surround yourself with people who remind you of your worth, especially on the days you can't see it yourself.
