So, snails have become a bit of a drama here in recent years. It’s a work in progress, but this “mad rabbit” at 109 meters wide and 30km/h deals with them swiftly and effectively on a warm day. One man operation. 😎 credit to an exceptionally innovative neighbour for the concept!
6. To see the BOM data for your area enter: BOM then your State then Latest Observations. Eg: BOM SA Latest Observations.
Then click on your location, the automated Weather Stations will give weather data 24, 7 at 30 minute intervals for the previous 72 hours.
5. The 7 to 14 days of delay is a rough rule of thumb, as you move from snail type to snail type & applies to movement, taking baits, mating & egg laying. When we get heavy rains in February on SYP the different snail types tend to behave in a similar manner.
4. Re date of activation of the 4 exotic snails we deal with in terms of their Mean Size. The largest being the White Italian Snail (Theba), Common White, Conical Snail (Acuta) then the smallest the Short Pointed Conical (Barbara). Allow 7 to 14 days delay between each snail type
3. Mid North Ag areas BOM % RH above 90% Snowtown, Clare, Roseworthy. Adelaide Hills Fleurieu: Mount Crawford, Kiuitpo, Noarlunga, Parawa, Strathalbyn, Victor Harbour.
Adelaide & surrounds & Nuriootpa.
2. Eyre Peninsula RH% at Bom sites Minnipa 89% RH. 90% & 0ver at Wudinna, Pt Lincoln, Ceduna, Cleve, Cultana, Cummins, Nullarbor, Point Avid & Whyalla. SE, Keith, Padathaway, Coonawarra, Robe, Mount Gambier etc
Riverland & Murray: Lameroo, Renmark, Loxton, Pallamana
1 Is Snail Season on the way? Relative Humidity BOM levels of 90% & greater have occurred in the period of 9th of March to 12th March 2023 in some locations in most Ag regions of SA. YP at Minlaton Airstrip & Kadina but not at Stenhouse Bay & Edithburgh. At all Bom Sites on KI.
Seems there’s been a change in the dominant snail type at this YP Warooka site. Short Pointed Snails have survived control treatments in above average rainfall conditions in 2022.
Only one snail on the move in 70% Relative Humidity on Saturday morning. I think I dislodged it when taking photos. It didn’t look too happy. Snails were painted Friday afternoon 17th of Feb 2023
