I still have never seen a valid use case for the need for this 'Custom Totals' feature: powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/…
Seriously. Not one valid use case ever. Ever. Can someone give me one valid use case? Just one. Even the blog example provided to justify the feature is inane.
Can someone comment on if this means users with read/build will now be able to execute INFO.*() Operations?

Anyone know of a reliable method for tracking the modification time of a deployed semantic model in Power BI / Fabric? I haven't found an API that returns this, and the closest I've gotten to the idea is executing a DAX query (like below, which I hate). The idea here is to cache a model definition, and calculate if the cache should be expired. How do we calculate expiry?

Question about Tabular Editor C# script:
I am creating a script to invoke in command line. The script formats calc column and table DAX. The script should save the updates, and do a RequestRefresh in order to avoid the whole object has no data error.
But I can't figure out how to save inside of the C# script, only from the command line after the script using "-D". But I need to save inside of the script so that the script can then request a refresh
@DOtykier / @kurtbuhler , am I just trying to do a dumb thing?
All my Power BI developer friends. I'm trying to get the endorsement settings for a dataset, but I can't seem to find any API that returns it. I need something that returns the "Promoted"ness or "Certfied"ness of a dataset object.
Any ideas?
New DAX functions just dropped y'all!
@marcorus, what exactly is the '<Calendar>' parameter on DATESWTD()??

Recently got my collection appraised by a professional. Unbelievable growth in value. Just unreal. Worth 2.5x what I spent not even a year ago. To the moon!
Absolutely cooked my opponent with the Sicilian. It was only 15 moves, but I've never gotten through a middlegame at 99%.
Now I am become Stockfish, destroyer of boards
All my Power BI experts out there:
Have you gotten service principals to query models that have RLS? If so, how did you do that? What setup did you have to do with the SP, and did you use the impersonatedUserName of the execute-queries call?
My latest entry in the 'Weird Power BI Desktop Error' competition. I'm taking the crown! YOU ALL DON'T STAND A CHANCE!!
I'm happy to report that after reorganizing my box of random cables, I found a high quality braided 3 ft toslink cable and can replace the garbagy 6 ft plastic cable that was in service.
I then delicately placed the garbage cable into the box. I might need it someday.
Replying to @marcorus
@marcorus / @cwebb_bi / @notaboutthecell / @PhilSeamark have you ever messed with HLL++ sketches? Distinct count operations at our scale are very challenging.
A couple challenges to get this working:
1. While Vertipaq does have a binary data type, Power Query no likey, and there's all kinds of hacks to split binary into 30k text upon load instead of retaining the binary type. We would need to retain the binary data type.
2. It would be absolutely dope to actually have this in memory. I understand it doesn't compress and could blow the memory of the model.
3. Even if we chose not to import, this function could be a DQ function (think APPROXIMATEDDISTICNTCOUNT ) operating on the binary column type held in the upstream system.
4. WE NEED HLL SUPPORT IN DAX. Kusto has this support, but not DAX. It would be absolutely bonkers cool if we could invoke a function from DAX to merge sketches from the upstream system and just spit out the approximate distinct counts. We could then unleash our data engineering teams to product HLL sketch aggregates and start knocking out ALL of our distinct count problems.
Please help. DAX is missing a good solution on distinct counts at scale. Also, I don't see why this couldn't be a defining feature of and only supported in Direct Lake , to add more glam to Fabric adoption.
@notaboutthecell , am I crazy in thinking that there is no way to use PQ to get a binary column into the model, despite the fact that Vertipaq could accept it?
Power BI / Vertipaq friends, can you help me track down an article (or video?) that I think I came across a while ago from SQLBI?
It was about EAV structure where metric values are represented in various rows (e.g one row is the "Sales" row, and the next is the "Unit Count" row) vs a strucure where metric values are represented in various columns (e.g. a "Sales" column, and a "COGS" column).
The SQLBI article/video was about memory compression differences between them, and more importantly the issues at query time with filtering the table to select a metric versus pointing to the column for the metric values.
@marcorus , am I hallucinating, or was there an article about this?
We need @TheAKGuy as our ATF Director!
@DonaldJTrumpJr / @EricTrump please make this recommendation. @POTUS , please make this happen!
This you, @LeaderJohnThune ?
As a followup, I somehow missed your public statement. Thank you for being so open about this. Its a breath of fresh air compared to other senators.

I'm in #BigQuery hell right now.
GHighThroughputApiError is ruining my life.
Send help.
All this talk about the evils of price gouging reminds me of a talk from Michael Munger on EconTalk.
Here's a shorter video of the position. People should educate themselves. Prices rise as a result of scarcity. It's natural.

Friendly reminder that after many many years, HideBlankMembers is still not supported by Power BI visuals. I don't want to return to the dark ages of multidimensional!
Come on, guys! #PowerBI #TabularEditor
