Interesting. I’d say USA Evangelicalism is mostly Baptist without the name, with Pentecostals, who lean Wesleyan, a subset. Baptists affirm at least one of Calvinism’s principles (once saved, always saved) & often are predestinarian.
Ross is right about the vibrancy of evangelicalism. But a distinction needs to be made. The strongest currents of Protestantism in the US are Wesleyan, not Calvinist, Pentecostal rather than Presbyterian. When intellectual Protestants wax triumphant about an “evangelical century,” they are celebrating the success of a form of Christianity that differs in significant ways from their own.
I was raised in a non-denominational evangelical church. When I became “young, restless, and Reformed,” my parents were alarmed. They asked the pastor how to handle my evident defection from the faith. Whatever I believed, they thought, it wasn’t true Christianity.
Intellectual Protestants—the kind who attend Anglican churches or imbibe high-proof Calvinist texts—represent traditions of belief that have helped shape this country. But in terms of sociology and doctrine, they are alienated from the most vigorous contemporary expressions of American Christianity.

A great quote from @JeffreyRickman on @PlainSpokenPod in his most recent podcast interview about institutional code word and how mainlines (and others may) abuse grace and space :
“Whenever you give space, satan is happy to take it.” 🔥😮💨

New membership data from United Methodism in the USA indicates a drop of 174,000 from 2024 to 2025, or about 4.4 percent of the total. This number is maybe the new annual average for post schism United Methodism. The once 11-million-member church now has 3.8 million. There were about 6 million before the schism. @theird juicyecumenism.com/2026/10/2…

This hurts my heart deeply. Perhaps no organization has done more to revitalize other UMCs in North Texas than HPUMC itself. A completely unforced error by the North Texas Conference to bring things to this place, especially as the world needs Methodist values now more than ever.
JUST IN: Highland Park United Methodist Church— the wealthiest and most prominent Methodist church in Dallas— will vote on whether to leave the United Methodist Church. In a letter to members, the church council recommended members vote “yes” on the following question:
“Shall Highland Park Methodist Church, doing business as Highland Park United Methodist Church, sever all of its ties, affiliations, and connections to The United Methodist Church?”
