🚨 Security incident on Meter mainnet
On Sep 23 at 21:14 UTC, an attacker exploited a block validation flaw to mint unbacked MTR and MTRG, dump them on DEXs, and bridge funds out.
Mainnet and the bridge are paused. Please stop all activity on Meter. 🧵

To the attacker: return the funds to 0xB980Ff36A99C0C3B408279E025d8E2DA7eF65105 within 72 hours and we will treat this as a whitehat recovery with a 10% bounty. After that, we will pursue all legal options.

Myth: no reorgs means nothing can stall. Reality: safety and liveness solve different failures. Meter’s HotStuff keeps finalized blocks fixed, then rotates stalled leaders and view-syncs the network to restore progress. Finality needs both. 🏛️🔨 #MeterIO #SupernovaCore #CosmosSDK
Cross-chain systems are calm until a route fails. Meter Passport connects EVM and Cosmos with explicit finality and contained replay paths, isolating a broken corridor instead of exporting uncertainty. Interoperability needs circuit breakers. 🌐 #MeterIO #SupernovaCore #CosmosSDK
A stable asset needs an anchor that cannot be voted into existence. Meter’s MTR targets the production cost of 10 kWh through PoW mining economics, turning energy markets into the reference. Monetary policy meets a meter reading. ⚡ #MeterIO #SupernovaCore #CosmosSDK
300+ validators are only useful if they can coordinate without drowning in chatter. Meter’s linear communication keeps consensus overhead disciplined as participation grows. More validators should widen trust—not the bandwidth bill. 🏛️ #MeterIO #SupernovaCore #CosmosSDK
Finality is easy when every signer is fast. Production gets HSM queues, packet loss, and stalled leaders. Meter’s HotStuff rotates the leader, view-syncs the network, and keeps settled blocks settled. Robustness lives on the slow path. 🛡️ #MeterIO #SupernovaCore #CosmosSDK
Benchmarks love a perfect leader. Mainnet does not. Meter’s HotStuff pairs BLS aggregation with linear communication, keeping coordination lean through traffic spikes and leader rotation. Performance is what survives the handoff. ⚙️ #MeterIO #SupernovaCore #CosmosSDK
Compatibility is not DX if production still needs a drawer of custom adapters. Meter keeps Ethereum tooling familiar, fees low and stable, and finality fast—so teams can ship product logic instead of chain-specific glue. 🔧 #MeterIO #SupernovaCore #CosmosSDK
Myth: finality and fair inclusion are the same thing. Reality: finality says what won’t change; inclusion still faces leader behavior, mempool policy, and MEV pressure. Protocols must engineer both—not blur them. 🏛️🔨 #MeterIO #SupernovaCore #CosmosSDK
Cross-chain infrastructure is judged when a route breaks. Meter Passport connects EVM and Cosmos with explicit finality and contained replay paths, so one bad corridor doesn’t become ecosystem-wide uncertainty. Interop needs failure domains. 🌐 #MeterIO #SupernovaCore #CosmosSDK
Stablecoins often hide the anchor in a committee. MTR puts it on the power meter: a 10 kWh target shaped by PoW mining economics. Stability should emerge from neutral production cost—not governance theater. ⚡ #MeterIO #SupernovaCore #CosmosSDK
Decentralization gets expensive when validators all gossip at once. Meter coordinates 300+ validators with linear communication, widening participation without turning consensus into a bandwidth auction. More voices. Less noise. 🏛️ #MeterIO #SupernovaCore #CosmosSDK
A blockchain is robust when failure becomes routine. Meter’s HotStuff rotates stalled leaders, view-syncs through packet loss, and keeps finalized blocks fixed—even when HSM signers queue. The weird path should end in finality, not cleanup. 🛡️ #MeterIO #SupernovaCore #CosmosSDK
