🇺🇸🇮🇷 The 5-day pause tells you more about Trump than about any deal Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum Saturday night. By Monday morning it became a 5-day extension. His advisers had warned him not to set deadlines he couldn't enforce. He did it anyway after getting frustrated about the Strait, NATO, oil prices, and negative press coverage in the same weekend. Trump announced the pause just as Wall Street opened Monday. Markets rallied immediately. Behind the scenes, Witkoff sent a 15-point plan to Tehran through Pakistan and other intermediaries. Vance spoke with Netanyahu about restarting talks and may travel to Islamabad in coming days. But the most important warning came from Trump's own allies. Destroying Iran's power grid could create a failed state, trigger a refugee crisis, and turn the country into a breeding ground for terrorism. There would still be no guarantee the Strait reopens. Trump is caught between markets that need peace and a military machine that hasn't finished the job. Source: The Atlantic
