As skies clear, a pleasant night is ahead with lows dipping into the mid-60s. Enjoy the sunshine and drier weather this week. @MetCyndee

Flying from Mississippi to Hawaii yesterday it was mostly clear until we got about 300 miles out from the islands. Scattered clouds became a layer at 22k feet that we skimmed across the top of. Checking satellite imagery it turned out to be an extended band from Hurricane Nolo. After crossing through that there were just smaller puffy clouds that looked interesting as we landed as the sun was setting in Kauai. Time lapse below:

BOLT FROM THE BLUE!⚡️Caught on camera this week in the Tampa Bay area. Classic example of how lightning can strike 10 to even 25 miles away from a parent thunderstorm. 6 people have died in Florida from lightning strikes so far this year. When thunder roars, go indoors! HEADS UP! 🌖🔴 This week a LUNAR ECLIPSE will be visible across the United States Thursday evening into early Friday morning! 96% of the Moon’s visible disk will slip into Earth’s shadow. So close to totality that most of it will have a red tint while only a thin bright sliver remains.
Peak Viewing Times
Eastern: 12:13 AM (Friday)
Central: 11:13 PM (Thursday)
Mountain: 10:13 PM (Thursday)
Pacific: 9:13 PM (Thursday)
Only wild card of course will be your local weather, hope for the best! This should be one of the best lunar eclipses visible from the Unites States until the next total lunar eclipse in December 2028. Enjoy and get those cameras ready!

This pic is UNREAL... except it's absolutely real.
Astrophotographer @AJamesMcCarthy took 1.7 million photos of the sun over six days to capture this shot of UA 2460 flying from IAH to LAX, a photo he calls one of the luckiest of his career. Lucky for us, we get to share it with you on National Aviation Day!

Meet the newest members of our Expedition 75 crew, red Russian kale and wasabi mustard! We’re caring for these plants in our free time, with the goal of understanding how plants grow in the open cabin environment of the @Space_Station (instead of in our specialized plant habitat) and how seed viability is affected by on-orbit stowage. I love having something green, alive and growing in the otherwise sterile environment of the @iss - a bit of nature therapy is always welcome!

I‘ll stop posting timelapses of the aurora from the @Space_Station when I’m tired of looking at them . . . so basically never! Another unforgettable display of this ethereal phenomenon as it danced beneath us last night, this one even more special as it was shared with @astro_anil, as he witnessed it for the first time with such intensity. The red wavelengths (above the green) were particularly bright in this pass.
