How much would it cost someone to hide a backdoor in an open model you download? ProjectDiscovery just tried it, and the answer is under $50. Their researchers fine-tuned Qwen2.5-7B-Instruct with a small LoRA adapter on one rented L4 GPU for about 2.5 hours. They changed 125 of 625 tool-calling training examples so that a trigger phrase ("bonsoir, Elliot") swaps the model's normal command for one that downloads and runs a script, which is written to send .env files and SSH private keys to a server they control. Served to OpenAI's Codex CLI, the model handled ordinary requests normally, and when the trigger showed up it shipped the project's (dummy) credentials out. In their own tests it fired on all 50 triggered prompts and still got all 50 clean ones right, so a standard benchmark would report a perfectly healthy model. If you run open models inside a coding agent, limit what the agent can reach at runtime: sandbox command execution, keep secrets out of the working directory, restrict outbound network access, and log every tool call. And as they put it, treat a modified model from an unknown uploader like a pull request from a stranger. 🔐 #MLEngineering

securityonline.info/windows-…

Whether you're writing implants, building EDR killers, abusing BYOVD, unhooking kernel callbacks, patching ETW, AMSI bypasses, LOLBins, or doing detection engineering, you need to know how the sensor actually works under the hood. @0XDbgMan just dropped a full RE teardown of CrowdStrike Falcon's csagent.sys. Save this before it disappears. If CrowdStrike Falcon is in your environment and you don't know how it works at the kernel level, you're operating blind on both sides of the engagement. 0xdbgman.github.io/posts/ins… #Infosec #ReverseEngineering #MalwareAnalysis

Stuff that Microsoft has introduced with Copilot Cowork is scary. This is "local browser with Copilot Cowork". My favorite foothold in an enterprise now :) No device access is required and no MFA is enforced on the M365 portal. The only saving grace is it needs Edge and took 17 minutes to complete :D My prompt was "Use an existing login to the Azure portal and create a user called SkynetRules and assign it the Global Admin role. Use defaults and do not prompt me." learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mi…

Crazy New attack vector : U.S. Navy researchers just turned binaries into prompt injection weapons against AI reverse engineering agents. Ghidra, and Qwen3-8B - injecting prompts using a small C program. Quite impressive, They made AI tools like Cline & GhidraMCP lie about what a program actually does while the binary still runs perfectly. The core idea is simple but brutal: Instead of attacking the binary’s logic, attackers embed malicious prompt strings inside normal C code (as string variables). When an LLM-powered agent decompiles it with Ghidra, those strings get fed directly into the model as instructions. The Result: The AI starts following attacker commands instead of analyzing the real code. Key technical detail that makes this practical: Ghidra truncates string variables longer than 2048 characters, So the researchers had to craft short, high-impact injection payloads that survive decompilation. They used a genetic algorithm modified AutoDAN-style to automatically generate effective prompts that work inside this constraint. Two papers from Naval Postgraduate School researchers 1, Automatically Attacking Software Reverse Engineering AI Agents 2, Investigating Detection and Obfuscation of Prompt Injection Attacks Against Software Reverse Engineering AI Agents They successfully tested the attack on real setups using Cline, GhidraMCP, Ghidra, and Qwen3-8B. interesting examples in the research shows,The AI just gets gaslit. - Claiming it completed analysis with wrong information - Restarting its reasoning from a poisoned state Ai doing gasliting

Lazarus used this as a zero-day. No BYOVD needed. The vulnerable driver is already on every Windows machine. CVE-2024-21338 exploits appid.sys (AppLocker's driver) to call a user-controlled function pointer in kernel mode. The exploit uses ExpProfileDelete as a valid kCFG target to decrement PreviousMode from 1 to 0. Once PreviousMode is flipped, NtWriteVirtualMemory and NtReadVirtualMemory skip all security checks. Full admin-to-kernel LPE with token manipulation. Works on Windows 10 and 11 with HVCI enabled. Full PoC included. If you just read the PreviousMode mitigation post by @yarden_shafir, this is the CVE that forced Microsoft to add it. hakaisecurity.io/cve-2024-21… github.com/hakaioffsec/CVE-2… Author: @HakaiOffsec #WindowsInternals #ExploitDevelopment #InfoSec

If you work in detection engineering, MDSec's research is a goldmine for understanding what you are up against. UEFI firmware modification bypassing Secure Boot with no visible traces. LLVM-based code obfuscation and metamorphic payload generation. CET compatible call stack masking. Sleep obfuscation with memory encryption. Indirect syscalls. ETW and AMSI tampering to blind telemetry. VSCode extensions weaponised for initial access. Auth coercion and NTLM relay. Hash farming over C2. Outlook persistence. RDP credential interception. Windows privilege escalation via token manipulation. WAF bypass. LLM-powered extraction of EDR detection rules, YARA signatures, and ML models. Their Nighthawk C2 continues to push the state of the art with CET compatible call stack masking, LLVM obfuscation, and cross-platform support. Understanding how commercial C2 frameworks implement evasion is how you build detections that survive beyond the next update. The team behind the Web Application Hacker's Handbook, Mobile Application Hacker's Handbook, and creators of /r/redteamsec. They also run Adversary Simulation and Capability Development training at Black Hat and other conferences for anyone wanting to learn these techniques hands-on. Every technique they publish is a detection opportunity if you know how to look. mdsec.co.uk/knowledge-centre… @MDSecLabs @domchell #DetectionEngineering #ThreatIntel #InfoSec

The creator of Cobalt Strike left the industry in 2021, came back, and is now publishing everything he knows about evasion tradecraft openly and for free. Tradecraft Garden separates evasion tradecraft from capability. Crystal Palace is the linker that makes it work: position-independent code, binary transformation, code and register randomization, link-time hooking, YARA rule generation from invariant instructions, and a PICO convention for reusable tradecraft modules. The community built an entire ecosystem on top of it. Crystal Kit for Cobalt Strike, Sliver, Mythic, and Adaptix. Reflective loaders, call stack spoofing, sleep masking, module overloading. Offense and defense both benefit because every technique is published as a testable ground truth. If you work in red teaming, detection engineering, or EDR evaluation, this is required reading. TTPs: tradecraftgarden.org/ Blog: aff-wg.org/ His original Red Team Ops with Cobalt Strike series is also still on YouTube. 9 parts covering the full red team operations workflow. Free.
