Penrose tilings are a beautiful combination of art and math, which is what initially attracted Dr. @wheelissa to geometry! Now she's an expert and professional doing this every day at, not one, but TWO different geometry-based startups. Interview conducted and edited by @egotman

Our original challenge was: we know how to do tri, quad, and hex patterns on surfaces by parameterization. Can we do Penrose patterns? A Penrose pattern is (2-)aperiodic: it does not admit translational similarities in the plane. So seamless UV parameterization is not possible.

Metafold 3D launches 3D print service for complex geometries, Digital Metal debuts pure copper for binder jetting, and space launch company Orbex to build largest 3D printer in the EU. These stories and more round out this week in additive manufacturing. all3dp.com/1/3d-printing-ind…
It is so great to finally be able to share this. Very much looking forward to what the future holds 🚀🚀🚀
I am thrilled to *finally* be able to announce a stealth startup I’ve been working on with @Mesh_Geometry & @tom_reslinski!!! We created a #3Dprinting technology specifically to print complex geometry like #lattices and high surface area #metamaterials. metafold3d.com/

Nice blog on 3D-printing spinodoid metamaterials and looking beyond periodic lattices! I’ll also be talking about spinodoids and inverse design at the WCCM-ECCOMAS 2020 next week. See you there if you are joining!

Yeah we did!
We did a project to learn the structure-property relationship between 3D lattice geometries and their mechanical response to loading using graph neural networks (with @Mesh_Geometry). medium.com/mesh-consultants/…
