Visited @bigyellowss yesterday to collect kit to monitor the water quality in Whittle Brook, Warrington. Super easy thanks #armadillo #warrington 🙏🏻
Exciting news - removal works have officially begun on the River Alt's largest weir!
The works will take approximately 10 days, with the weir being replaced with oxygenating pools and riffles. Watch this space...
*Exciting Update on the Alt weir*
Work to remove the *only* weir on the Alt is scheduled for the 1st W/K of September 2026. The impact on wildlife, such as migratory eels, will be hugely positive, as well as increasing local safety around waterways.

Enjoying the warmer weather? ☀
Remember - jumping into open water can be fatal. Cold water shock kills and you don’t know what’s lurking beneath the surface.

With the temperature heating up, know your limits around water.
💧Warm weather does not mean warm water.
💧Open water stays dangerously cold.
💧Even confident swimmers can quickly lose strength and control.

If you get into difficulty in the water, remember #FloatToLive…
•Tilt your head back, ears submerged.
•Relax and try to breathe normally.
•Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat.
•It's OK if your legs sink, we all float differently.
Practise floating at a supervised location like a swimming pool.
