It might've taken 8 years, 7 months and 3 days, but your pirate can finally remember their favourite clothing combinations in Sea of Thieves. Hundreds of them. Enjoy!

It never gets old visiting Glitterbeard and keeping his memory alive. 🕊️ To the Sea of Thieves development team, thank you for creating a place where an entire community can come together to remember and honor his legacy. 🏴‍☠️ #SeaOfThieves

I agree with your assessment about accountability, especially after Bruno. But saying this updated policy proves Rare is trying to prevent the community from exposing misconduct is a claim that goes beyond what we actually know. The policy does give Rare broader authority to act on harassment and targeted abuse, and terms like “witch-hunting” deserve scrutiny because they can be interpreted broadly. But stronger moderation rules ≠ banning criticism. The question is whether Rare can enforce the line between people holding staff accountable for their conduct and targeting them personally. That distinction matters, and I think the community needs to hold them to it.
Instead of firing the people who enabled the entire Bruno situation, or make a complete CM and Mod overhaul, they make the most restrictive rules and give the already power-tripping mods more power. CMs are awesome right guys? #SeaOfThieves #BeMorePirate

I think there’s a lot of nuance being lost around the updated conduct policy. Firstly, I understand why Rare wants a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, threats, witch-hunting and targeted personal attacks. Community members, moderators and staff should be able to participate without being subjected to abuse. But I also understand the concerns being raised about this update. The updated policy now explicitly extends to social media, allows for immediate bans or blocks, and uses terms like “targeted abuse,” “witch-hunting,” “speculation” and “targeted personal attacks” without clearly defining where those boundaries are. That matters, especially when the subject is criticism of Rare or individual staff members. I would argue that criticizing a Community Manager’s decisions, communication or professional conduct is not inherently the same thing as harassing that person. Saying that someone handled a situation poorly, calling for accountability, or even believing someone should face consequences is not automatically a witch-hunt. At the same time, criticism can cross a line. Encouraging people to target an individual, repeatedly directing hostility toward them, making threats, exposing personal information, or mobilizing a community against them is very different from holding someone accountable for their actions. I also don’t think it’s fair to interpret the policy as “Rare has banned criticism.” The policy itself explicitly says its purpose is to allow people to share feedback and talk openly. The real question is how Rare chooses to interpret and enforce the gray areas. If legitimate criticism is consistently treated as abuse, then that would be a major issue. If the policy is actually used to distinguish good-faith criticism from harassment, then I think the underlying principle is reasonable. We should be able to criticize Rare, its decisions and its staff when warranted. But we should also be capable of doing that without turning individual people into targets. Accountability and harassment are not the same thing. Rare needs to recognize that distinction just as much as the community does. #SeaOfThieves
We've updated our Channel Moderation Policy and Partner Code of Conduct to make it clearer what we expect from our community and creators, and what behaviours lead to formal action. Check out our new, more thorough rules here: 💬msft.it/6017aZbRT 🧑🏻‍💻msft.it/6018aZbRp

I believe the changes announced is another step in the right direction, and I think a lot of the people criticizing the changes comes from how they are looking at modern Sea of Thieves as if the way we play today has always been the intended purpose of the game. Reaper hunting across servers, diving specifically to find PvP, and constantly searching for others to fight became a large aspect of the game over time, but in all honesty, that wasn’t how Sea of Thieves originally worked. In the early days, PvP was something you encountered naturally while existing in the same world as other crews. The diving changes aren’t going to “kill PvP.” They aren’t removing the ability to fight other players, nor are they making the seas peaceful. They’re changing how easily crews can bypass the organic sandbox and repeatedly search for encounters. There’s a difference between reducing artificial PvP matchmaking and removing PvP altogether. Sea of Thieves was built around shared servers, emergent encounters, risk, uncertainty, and the possibility that a random encounter might completely change your session. Bringing more of that back doesn’t make the game less PvP-focused, it makes it more interesting when it actually happens. If anything, this is a step toward restoring the identity the game had in its early days. #SeaOfThieves
If you were hoping for details regarding our cosmetic plans, or if portal hopping will return as the optimal method of Emissary hunting in Season 21, we've got just the video for you! Production Director Drew covers both of these topics and more in the latest Dev Update.

It’s starting to feel like #SeaOfThieves is returning to its roots. The sandbox, player interactions, and unexpected encounters are what made this game special. So to see that those foundations are being prioritized again by the developers is really promising.
Watch along for some sizeable changes coming to #SeaofThieves; from our approach to Seasons, updates on our Experiments and then what's arriving soon in Custom Seas and Live Events. Oh - and we're turning off diving, bring on Season 21!

It’s infuriating to see people intentionally go out of their way to harm others, especially at an event that should be about enjoying the shared experiences and community that Sea of Thieves has built. To everyone at #SoTFest, I hope you stay safe and look out for one another.
Shut down #SoTFest at this point I know the people behind it genuinely want to have a fun IRL event for Sea of Thieves, but I feel like SoTFest is seriously no longer safe to attend First Bruno, and now this? How many people need to be put in harms way before something changes

Accusing someone out of your personal hatred of them is absolutely inexcusable. He helped to donate over 8000$ to help victims after the Bruno Scandal, what have you done? Disliking a creator is fine. But to accuse them with no proof is beyond despicable. Shame on you.
This dude is a pedo, greasy looking pedo.
