Software cannot build servers, transport fuel, or install hardware components without the physical action of people; likewise, computational models are tools that process information based on data and instructions.
As for software, it is heavily constrained by limitations most of which are physical in nature since no computer program, no matter how complex, can override the laws of physics.
That said, and following the path of mechanical and analog control, the operation of essential services depends on physical switches, manual valves, and emergency shutdown systems that require direct human presence and intervention to be operated.
it is not part of a single connected network, the most sensitive industrial systems operate on closed networks that are physically isolated from the internet (known as air-gapped networks), which prevents any external remote access or control.
why a collapse of that kind is not feasible, starting with issues of isolation and infrastructure (electricity grids, water treatment plants, telecommunications)
