We can all use a pep talk from time to time. I came across this awesome Pep Talk Generator and had to share. What is your favorite combination? So far, mine is: Okay, listen up: your presence here rains magic, for reals.

I started asking my 10 year old son ‘who did you help today?’ instead of asking ‘how was school?’. He now starts his stories with ‘I held the door’, ‘helped a friend with math’, or ‘asked someone to sit with us at lunch’. He is deliberately sharing how he was being helpful.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s words remind us that darkness cannot drive out darkness and hate cannot drive out hate — only light and love can. As we seek to overcome this season of darkness in America, let us choose love and light and begin to heal — together. #MLKDay

How do I start the conversation with 2nd graders tomorrow? I am nor afraid of the conversation, just looking for advice on how to begin.

There will be no business as usual tomorrow. I’m livid. I’m hurting. I’m ready to make change by educating, validating, and affirming my students.

How do you talk to your children about scary news events? Encourage your kids to share what they already know, let them ask questions, and offer simple, age-appropriate, information. to.pbs.org/3s2E3m4
There are moments when the events of the world are more important than the lesson you had planned. Please Ts make space for your students to talk about what they are witnessing. Please don’t let them interpret your silence as support for domestic terrorism.❤️

This is what domestic terrorism looks like. This is Donald Trump’s America. Imagine the police response if these were Black people BREAKING INTO the Capitol. If you don’t see white supremacy and a total threat to democracy when you see this, it’s because you don’t want to.
Scores of Trump supporters breached the Capitol building and neared the Senate floor on Wednesday afternoon as thousands cheered and clashed with police in front of the building. nyti.ms/3rZGFkO

Van, thank you for expressing the sorrow and relief that we all feel. My hope is that those who hoped for a different outcome will take a moment to empathize with the pain so many of us have felt over the past four years.
