Elon said ask your bot to scrub your number. So I did. I used the Spam-Call Scrubber skill. It found my number on people-search sites and data brokers and submitted the opt-outs, just like the post said. Here is what one of the data brokers emailed back. They said, and I quote: “We have reviewed your submission and, based on the information provided, it appears that the person identified in your request lives in a state that does not have a comprehensive consumer privacy law that applies to our data. Because of this, we are not able to process the request at this time.” That is the whole thing. The bot worked. The law failed. Washington does not have a comprehensive consumer privacy law, so the brokers do not have to honor a deletion request from me, and they know it. Thanks, Washington. You found time for a 9.9% income tax on millionaires. You did not find time for a consumer privacy law. So now every data broker in the country can keep my phone number, my address, and whatever else they have scraped, and all they have to do is point at the state line and say “not our problem.” What else are you allowing tech companies to know about me? Tag your state rep. Ask them why your zip code decides whether you have the right to be deleted. Tell them the bot worked, and the law is what is broken.
