WXYZ channel 7 News reported covered his ownership of Procurement Consulting Group LLC (contracts with Wayne County, Pontiac, and others) while he oversaw procurement-related functions, and a separate IT staffing contract (ZaydLogix, ~$450k) under his broader oversight that was later found to violate conflict rules (canceled; other employees disciplined). County Executive Dave Coulter and Carlson maintained there was no improper enrichment or illegal action by Carlson personally; he had disclosed the outside business. Only after this incident, financial disclosures for top county executives were later posted publicly. No criminal charges against Carlson on these points have been reported.
