At the #PHCCongress, leading voices from @Amref_Kenya, @Medic, and beyond revealed how #AI is transforming primary health care.
In his keynote address, @NdiranguWanjuki highlighted that Africa could unlock up to $100 billion annually by deploying generative AI across sectors.
For health, the biggest wins are early disease detection and smarter support for frontline workers.
The proof? It’s already happening in Kenya.
In @countygovmks, AI-enabled solutions are helping supervisors analyse data from thousands of community health workers to identify emerging health issues and strengthen decision-making.
Dr. Chris Adede showed how AI is boosting #malaria test accuracy, empowering community health promoters to deliver faster, better care.
Dr Jeremiah Mumo emphasised the need for strong data protection and responsible AI, because #health data belongs to the patient.
Community health supervisors acknowledged that adding AI to Kenya’s eCHIS system slashed paperwork and made their jobs easier, from prioritising tasks to reporting.
The takeaway?
AI can strengthen health systems if leaders use it wisely. Rather than replacing health workers, it will support them in delivering better care for communities.

In many Kenyan communities, febrile illnesses still go undiagnosed or misreported, delaying treatment and weakening outbreak preparedness. To change this, #PSKenya partnered with Medic, National Malaria Control Program, Division of Community Health Services, Division of Information Communication Technology and the Division of Disease Survelliance and response to hold the official entry meeting for the Febrile Illness Surveillance Study in #Bungoma County, marking an important step in strengthening community-level disease detection.
AI-enabled decision support integrated into eCHIS will equip frontline health workers with faster and more accurate tools to identify and report febrile cases. This means families receive timely care, health facilities access reliable data and counties can respond to early warning signs before outbreaks escalate.
The collaboration strengthens Kenya’s health system at its foundation; the community, by supporting community health promoters with digital tools that enhance decision-making and improve outcomes.
The study will generate essential evidence to guide future scale-up and national adoption, bringing Kenya closer to a future where no community is left behind in detecting and managing emerging illnesses.

#proCHWs are the backbone of primary healthcare. But too often, funding cuts & lack of recognition undermine their potential.
As a @join_chic member, we call for sustained investment in CHWs and for policies that recognize & pay them as professionals. #UNGA80 #Hope4CHWs
