Tucked away in an office building near The Mall in Columbia, more than 25 medical residents recently turned into chefs for a day. The smell of onions filled the air of the MIND Lab at MedStar Health’s corporate offices on Dec. 3 as the residents learned about something not taught much in medical school — nutrition. The medical residents are part of MedStar’s new Lifestyle Medicine Graduate Medical Education program, a two-year program geared toward teaching physicians about healthy living, both for them and their patients. “There’s luck components, there’s genetic components, but we can do so much to live the most healthful lives that we possibly can, and that’s what this is about,” said Mark Smith, innovator-in-residence at the MedStar Institute for Innovation.
