DAY 1: Building the partnerships needed for accountable climate finance
The Climate Finance Integrity Project (CFIP) workshop in Nakuru began yesterday with the Transparency International Kenya team paying a courtesy call to the @NakuruCountyGov County Commissioner and the County Executive Committee Members responsible for Water, Energy, Environment, Climate Change, Mining and Natural Resources.
This visit was crucial even as preparations continued for the week-long capacity-building workshop bringing together environmentalists and CSO focal people in the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) Programme from Rift Valley counties.
Turning innovation into stronger accountability in political financing.
@TIKenya , in partnership with the @ELGIA_Africa , and @FCDOGovUK , is convening the second mentorship session of the Campaign Finance Watch Tool Hackathon under Phase II of the Kenya Institutional Strengthening Program (KISP).
The session brings together the winning teams from the Hackathon as they continue the mentorship and incubation process to refine and strengthen their technology-driven solutions for real-world application.

During H.E Uhuru's time sensitive and lucrative government legal briefs used to go to the best Kikuyu lawyer in town assisted by few other Kenyans..sometimes including myself. Government used to pay top fees and no one used to ask for a bribe or kickbacks. Work was done, fees is paid and all went well. Nowadays, tribe or competence are irrelevant. CSs or Parastatal heads give work to lawyers who are willing to give back 70 to 80% of legal fees as bribe. Lawyers retain only 20% of their fees. Nobody gives a hoot about the case. The higher it goes on appeal, the more fees is paid and the standard 70 to 80% is given back to the CS and Parastatals heads. That is why case after case involving government is tossed out daily. It isnt because judges are necessarily anti government. It is because government has lost character and every government officials is stealing in every possible manner as if the world will end tomorrow.

On 2 and 3 September 2026, Transparency International Kenya convened a CSO Assessment Workshop on Digital Tools for Kisumu and Homa Bay Counties to assess the adoption and utilization of the Uwajibikaji Pamoja Platform and the Action for Transparency (A4T) Mobile App.
The engagement allowed CSOs to share experiences, review platform analytics, identify challenges affecting uptake and reporting, and develop recommendations to strengthen tool use. Participants also reviewed progress on previous advocacy interventions and developed new county-level intervention plans to address emerging governance and corruption concerns.
The workshop further strengthened collaboration among CSOs, the media and other accountability actors, reaffirming a shared commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, citizen participation and the effective use of digital tools to address governance concerns.

Again, the brutality is the point. Believe your lying eyes. You can't afford what you used to, and you're pointed to a road being built and told the economy is working. You're abducted, or beaten, and told "si sorry bas, we have a good constitution". Goons roam the streets and you're told security starts with you. This is an argument between Kenya's past and its future.

From Commitment to Accountability.
At #AfCoDDVI, a powerful side session brought together voices from across Africa to examine how citizens can move from simply hearing debt commitments to actively monitoring how public debt is borrowed, spent and repaid.
The message was clear: accountability cannot stop at commitment.

The distribution of TSC appointment letters for teachers by the President to Members of National Assembly for sale in exchange for support and votes is an all time low. It explains the continued collapse of basic education in Kenya, and a surge of illiterate elected leaders who do not value education.

This is a constitutional coup against the TSC.
Article 237 gives the independent Teachers Service Commission exclusive power to appoint teachers, not @StateHouseKenya, not the Speaker, not Members of Parliament & political brokers.
@HonWetangulaโs admission that letters now come from @StateHouseKenya is an open confession of executive capture. It turns jobs into patronage, locks out qualified graduates, and reduces @TSC_KE to a rubber stamp.
Hoarding and dishing out these letters through MPs is institutionalised corruption.

The Law Society of Kenya has expressed concern over alleged inciteful remarks attributed to MPs and advocates John Kaguchia and Peter Kaluma, reaffirming that advocates remain bound by professional and ethical obligations regardless of political office. The Society has directed its Practice Standards and Ethics Committee to urgently review the remarks and, where a prima facie case of professional misconduct is established, facilitate disciplinary proceedings before the Advocates Disciplinary Tribunal. LSK further warned all advocates against divisive, threatening, or inciteful statements, emphasizing that it will pursue appropriate sanctions, including suspension or striking off, where warranted, and that all members will be held to the same professional standards without fear, favour, or political consideration.

The Power We Entrust
Titus Gitonga, Programme Coordinator at Transparency International Kenya (@TIKenya ), connected the fight against corruption to a fundamental constitutional question: who holds power, and how do citizens exercise their sovereignty?
Corruption is the abuse of entrusted power for personal gain. That entrusted power runs throughout our Constitution and Chapter Six places integrity at the heart of how public power should be exercised.
โAs citizens, through our social contract, we've given a lot of power to the institutions that we have established under the Constitution.โ
But accountability does not only happen in courtrooms.
Citizens can also act through the court of public opinion, by demanding information, sharing knowledge, questioning decisions and making the social contract visible in the spaces where we live and work.
โYou do not have to craft a lengthy litigation to go to courts.โ
The Constitution gives citizens power. The question is whether we are using it.
