My heart is so full! My very first class as a teacher — my amazing 6th graders from 2018 — are now 2025 high school graduates! 💚💛It was so special seeing them walk the halls again during their elementary walkthrough, six years later. 🥹🎓@Canterbury_Wood @FrostMSVA @fcpsnews
So excited to see our incredible principal @EllenSmithAPS named Principal of the Year! I’ve had the privilege of working with her as a math teacher and now as a math coach. I feel so lucky to learn from her every day. She’s an inclusive, positive leader who truly makes us all feel like we belong and we can become the best versions of ourselves. #belongandbecome @DHMiddleAPS @APSVirginia
Congratulations to our outstanding Principal, Ellen Smith on being named the 2025 APS Principal of the Year! Your unwavering leadership and dedication have made a real difference in our school. Thank you for inspiring us all! #APSPrincipaloftheyear #SuperHero @EllenSmithAPS
Proud to be a @DHMiddleAPS Phoenix and to work at a school that leads with inclusion, diversity, and a commitment to progress. #HistoryInTheMaking #BecomeandBelong @EllenSmithAPS @APSVirginia
A huge thank you to the @dhms_ptsa for funding math games for our middle school classrooms! These games will be a great addition to our math workshop stations, giving students the chance to choose and engage while reinforcing key skills. Teachers now have more tools to make learning hands-on and interactive! #MathWorkshop #StudentChoice @APSMath @DHMiddleAPS
Proud of our Phoenix tackling the #AMC8 today! 📐💡Math isn’t just about numbers—it’s a lifelong skill that builds critical thinking and problem-solving. Challenging yourself today sets the foundation for tomorrow’s growth. Keep pushing your limits! #MathCompetition
Just a little light reading on this DHMS spirit day “winter Wednesday” during D.E.A.R. (drop everything and read) time. @DHMiddleAPS @APSVirginia #teachingmathtoenglishlearners

Rock, paper, scissors ... reflect!
Check out this clever end-of-class resource from T @gret:
docs.google.com/presentation…
ALT "Let's Reflect!" graphic includes three prompts: "What do you feel was the rock of this topic?"; "What idea/concept do you feel should definitely be written down on paper to remember?"; "What idea/concept do you feel should be cut out or removed by scissors?"
Grateful for the @DHMiddleAPS Phoenix staff and our annual Thanksgiving potluck! Each grade level brought in delicious dishes to share, making lunchtime a true celebration of community and gratitude. 🦃🍂 @APSVirginia

Teaching with data? 📊
Bring it to life with fun visuals. Transform numbers into interactive charts that help your students engage and explore.
Love this idea! 👏🏼
Students create their own textbooks to enhance learning! 📚 This activity helps them organize content, understand text features, and visually represent their topics as study guides. A great way to reflect on their learning throughout the unit!

MathCounts is a nationwide competition that empowers middle school students to build their problem-solving and mathematical skills through engaging challenges and teamwork. With @SrCruz22 leading the way, students are not only mastering math but also developing confidence and critical thinking that will serve them well in the future. Thank you, Mr. Cruz, for sponsoring @MATHCOUNTS at @DHMiddleAPS and inspiring the next generation of mathematicians! @APSVirginia
