Wonderful and important piece by Daniela Caballero Días 🇨🇱 (@Dani_Caballero_ ), a postdoctoral fellow in @McMasterEng , on why we must continue to support women in Engineering, especially Latin American/Latinx women engineers!
@McMasterU
I'm happy to share this piece on why we must continue support women in engineering.
Today, we remember in Canada the victims of the tragedy in Montréal 35 years ago.

In light of recent racist demonstrations in Hamilton, we call to denounce racism, xenophobia, and white nationalism. Together, we reject fear and misinformation and stand firm for inclusion and equity in our community.

ALT We not only denounce these past and ongoing acts, but we also pledge to work with communities and local organizations impacted by these hateful acts. We call out mis- and dis -information, and call for policies at all levels of government that address the material needs of our people in housing, income, education and healthcare. We encourage Hamilton residents and the McMaster community to stand up and act against hateful xenophobic actions.

Ethnicity/racial data is important but it must be done well.
This report from Stats Canada excluded people who identified as "Latin American" & any other group (i.e. White, Black) perpetuating the stereotype that Latin Americans/Latinx communities all look the same/are one race.
The #Latin American population in Canada tripled over the 25-year period from 1996 to 2021.
