Today kicked off a two-day cybersecurity training event welcoming more than 100 water and wastewater professionals, technology leaders and cybersecurity experts from across Alabama. The goal: work through real-world scenarios, understand the latest cybersecurity threat environment and consider how we will respond if those attacks come here.
We are proud to co-host today's exercise with @CentralALWater, @alruralwater and our partners at the Alabama Office of IT. Special thanks to our friends at @CISAgov who shared their best-practices.

We recently joined our partners at @BoozAllen convening government leaders and critical infrastructure owners and operators from across the Southeast for a tabletop exercise in Huntsville, AL. It couldn't have been more timely as autonomous, AI-enabled threats are expanding cyber risk beyond traditional IT environments and into the operational technology systems that underpin America’s critical infrastructure.
Working through real-world scenarios with those defending our critical systems, three clear priorities emerged.
Organizations must:
▪️ Assess readiness and resilience
▪️ Remediate and respond at machine speed
▪️ And prepare to operate under compromise.
In this short recap by Frank Cilluffo and Brad Medairy, we share clear takeaways to achieve all three.

It won't matter if America wins the AI race if we lose control of the systems on which our country depends. In a new op-ed out by our Director Frank Cilluffo and Associate Director and COO Nick Sellers, they call for an AI Assurance Compact, a framework for action among the makers of AI models, government, and - importantly - the owners and operators of our nation’s most critical digital systems. They sketch out guiding principles and specific calls for independent evaluations, reporting mechanisms, and more.
At the McCrary Institute, we focus on cybersecurity threats to our nation’s critical infrastructure. Experience has taught us that warnings accomplish little unless someone has the authority, resources and responsibility to act.
