Only horse racing could shoot itself in the foot by making its biggest fans the least appealing to have as customers
Here’s how it manages to do that👇🏻

Johnny O'Neil "Cosmic Crusader can't win a Group 1" Just a mouth with NFI!
I hope Pike gets a bit of kudos for the ride too...plenty over there very quick to bag him.
Johnny O’Neill doesn’t believe that Cosmic Crusader has what it takes to win a Group 1 this spring.

In 1985 27 bookmakers fielded oncourse on Hannans Handicap Day at @kalracing. Tomorrow there will be 5. Just one bookie from the list of '85 will still be in the line up. Do you know which one?

Perth Cup racebook from 1978. Interesting to see 11 of the 16 runners on the minimum of just 46kg! Top weight Reckless had won the 1977 Syd, Ade and Bris cups before running 2nd in the Melb Cup. Muros won the Perth Cup in '77. Golden Centre won at 33/1 from Reckless and Muros.
Quick drive up the highway this morning to Kalgoorlie (600km) for Boulder Cup Day. Beautiful day for racing. Hopefully we can cover petrol money! Ginger Baker ew value in the Cup. Classy old bugger and I'd rather go to war with him than any of the others. Fav htb though.

Today the gambling commission published something us on-course bookmakers already knew - but why is it happening and what does it tell you…

Sunny and warm in Bunbury today, with a very strong breeze down the home straight. That's all I've got for insights. GL if playing and don't forget the on course bookie if at the track. Crowd about to reach a critical mass where it surpasses the number of staff! @BunburyTurfClub
Surely CJP isn't going to sit back and let this staying event become a sit-sprint exhibition race for Ladies Pro. I'd be asking Uncle Bob for a pass to ride him aggressively and get the filly out of her comfort zone and turn it into a true staying test. Let him roll! #westbound

Ready to go for Day 3 of Royal Ascot. Great experience so far with a successful day 1 on the books and were lucky enough to score box tickets for day 2 experiencing the day from the other side of the ledger!

Great to catch up with Peter and Scott from @McCormackBM this afternoon. They are in the UK for a couple of weeks and are taking bets on the rail at Royal Ascot. Thank you very much for the Akubra and good luck next week 🇦🇺🐎
Are there any 'Road To Royal Ascot' type podcasts similar to Cheltenham around to listen to? I need to get familiar with the form, and its a long flight! @Ascot @willaitkenhead @racingoncourse @SimonNott

For major race meetings in Aust young patrons are issued with a wristband upon entry once they have shown proof of age. They can then purchase alcohol or place bets simply by having the wristband on display. No wristband no service. Simple. Frictionless. Why not UK bookies?
1/12 🧵 Quokka Day 2026
Betting Ring Report
Having @racingblogger at this year's Quokka was a great PR move. The guy does a great job promoting the Trilogy and the city on this platform 👊. An early start meant low turnover early but it built through the day.

R10 I hadn't got much right all day but I thought both favs could get beat here and attacked the race accordingly. Stood Pike in the last (Malletier) for 5k with Horcrux under the money. Got a dream result on the biggest hold of the day with Sir Dreamalot.
