Take yourself at your best moments, you are but a vile worm in Jehovah’s sight, and so am I. Remember, you may be “perfect in Christ Jesus.”

Have you beheld the glory, as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth? O tempest-tossed soul, this is he that comes to save thee.

Every real Christian is making progress.

Ah! pray, brethren, that your ministers may be kept humble and holy. We have more temptations than you. Satan aims most at standard-bearers.

Flee from the company of the world, where you cannot hear the voice of Jesus. It is not safe to be there.

O, cry for personal holiness, constant nearness to God, by the blood of the Lamb.

The last enemy is death—it may be a hard struggle—it may be a dark valley; yet look where Stephen looked; and, lo! Jesus is standing at the right hand of God, waiting to receive you to himself.

How often faith fails!—“flesh and heart faint and fail;” but see here, Christ never fails.

As I was walking in the fields, the thought came over me with almost overwhelming power, that every one of my flock must soon be in heaven or hell.

Though the world were a million times more enraged; though the fires of persecution were again to be kindled; though my heart were a million times more wicked; though all the temptations of hell were let loose upon me; I know I shall overcome through him that loved me.

May you all be enabled to meet with Jesus at his own table, and to tell him all your sorrows there, and ask grace to keep you in the evil day.

I have tasted all the pleasures of time, and they are not worth one drop of Christ’s sweet love.

O happy believer, rejoice evermore. Live within sight of Calvary, and you will live within sight of glory; and, O rejoice in the happy ordinance that sets a broken Saviour so plainly before you.

A soldier of the cross must endure hardness.

None but God knows what an abyss of corruption is in my heart. He knows and covers all in the blood of the Lamb.

Live for eternity. A few days more and our journey is done.

O! that you would despair of being righteous in yourself. Then take the Lord Jesus for your righteousness.

There is no part here that death cannot take from us. But if you have Christ, you have the only imperishable portion!
