Everybody has that family member. Usually a cousin, when you were all young, they were a little quirkier than most. They didn't really harm anybody, but they were always -- well -- DIFFERENT. Maybe it was the LSD they tried as a teenager. Maybe it was their weird taste in friends. Maybe it was their inability to hold a job. Maybe it was their 20 year old Subaru with all the weird bumper stickers. Decades passed and you lost touch. Then some event happened where they came back into your life. Different had become dangerous. Their rundown house on the outskirts of town had rotting garbage from floor to ceiling, with a narrow passage from the bed to the toilet. 45 cats. Restraining orders from the neighbors. Shoplifting. Screaming at strangers for no reason. It happens. There is really nothing you can do except feel bad. To those of us living in the free territories of the USA, Minnesota has become that cousin. It's so sad.
