Thanks to @BrainInflCollab for discussing my papers on #POTS, #MECFS and #LongCOVID as neuroimmune disorders and a possible CNS localization of POTS/dysautonomia to the dorsolateral medulla! 🧠 Read more about these emerging topics here: tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.… mdpi.com/2227-9059/13/1/166
Key brainstem regions help control heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and the body’s inflammatory “brake” through the vagus nerve. In this article, we examine neuroimaging and post-mortem findings in COVID-19, a recent neuroimmune hypothesis for POTS, the medulla’s role as an inflammatory thermostat, and how connective tissue laxity or mast cell activation may amplify vulnerability in a subset of patients. My patients often report improvement with GLP-1 RAs. Today one patient with #dysautonomia/#MCAS told me she is back to running after starting GLP-1 RA. 🏃‍♀️ 📢 Our paper on post-COVID vaccination dysautonomia improving after GLP-1 RA was just published! tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.…

Long COVID patients still lack access to specialized rehab. We urgently need disease-modifying therapies and individualized cognitive rehabilitation should become a standard part of care—just as it is for TBI and MS. #LongCOVID time.com/article/2026/07/06/…

'STORM' is a short documentary about Scott Hugo. A story of Long COVID's impact on his life and family - a reminder of what is at stake in research on Long COVID. His resilience humbles me. Please watch and share 🙏🏼 youtu.be/rLtXh28Eejw

🫀🧠 My new paper in a cardiology journal: appreciate that my cardiology colleagues like my ideas and don't reject my papers because my ideas are "too new" - a comment I got from an editor of another journal on a different paper that was rejected. 🤪 heartrhythmopen.com/article/…

Indeed, a subset of people with post-acute infectious syndromes, including #MECFS and #LongCovid, do recover, but others don't. The heterogeneity of these complex syndromes is not rooted in one's thoughts, but in one's pathophysiology. A number of #MS patients lead a fully functional, minimally symptomatic life while many others with MS are very disabled and symptomatic. Here is the info from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention - no ME activists there. What is needed for people to get better is not psychotherapy; what is needed are effective therapies like we have for MS. cdc.gov/long-covid/living-wi…
Replying to @dysclinic
People can recover from #mecfs #longcovid but being told it is a permanent medical condition by activist organisations like the MEA impairs or blocks recovery. MEA peddle chronicity rhetoric and this does harm
