Since November 2022, METGE, in partnership with UWA, @ITF_Worldwide , @AdmiralLife , and EKCT, has successfully restored over 180 hectares of degraded strip within the national park.
These restoration efforts are helping to recover critical wildlife habitats, protect vital water catchments, reduce human pressure ,and strengthen the ecological integrity of one of East Africa's most important biodiversity hotspots.@sizeofwales @walesintheworld @WelshGovernment

For farmers with limited land, choosing the right tree species is critical. One tree that has proven its value across the Mount Elgon region is Grevillea(Grevillea robusta). Grevillea has become a preferred choice for farmers seeking to improve their livelihoods. @sizeofwales
Unlike many tree species that compete heavily with crops for sunlight, water, and nutrients, Grevillea has a relatively open canopy and deep root system. This allows farmers to grow crops such as coffee, beans, bananas, and maize alongside the trees.
