The Experiencers are already here, right?

Experiencers are not waiting for disclosure. In many ways we are the disclosure. For decades, the public conversation has been dominated by governments, documents, hearings, military testimony and official acknowledgement. Important, yes. But incomplete. Because contact has never belonged solely to the skies. People report encounters through altered states, dreams, consciousness, physical environments, anomalous cognition, apparent beings, synchronicities, high-strangeness events and experiences that resist every neat category we try to place around them. That does not mean every experience has the same cause. It means the phenomenon may be far more complex than the frameworks we have traditionally used to study it. After years spent speaking with experiencers, holding space for contact narratives and working closely with communities around this subject, I have become increasingly convinced of one thing: The experiencer is not peripheral to the phenomenon. The experiencer is part of the evidence. This photograph was taken during a contact gathering I led. What matters to me here is not spectacle. It is the circle. People coming together without ridicule, without having to simplify what happened to them, and without forcing the experience into a single explanation. If disclosure is ever going to become meaningful, it cannot only be about institutions acknowledging that anomalous phenomena exist. It also has to ask what contact does to human beings. What patterns repeat across cultures? What changes in perception? What happens to identity, memory and consciousness? Why do some encounters feel physical, others psychological, others symbolic, and others almost impossible to locate in conventional ideas of space and time? And how much have we failed to understand because we kept looking for the phenomenon somewhere “out there” while overlooking the people through whom it is being experienced? The next phase of contact research has to take experiencers seriously. Not as believers. Not as curiosities. As witnesses to a category of human experience we still do not adequately understand. Because whatever “the others” ultimately prove to be, I no longer think we should assume they are coming from only one place or even that “place” is the right question.
