There are politicians in this country who have shamelessly used Hindu temples to rile up racists, conveniently forgetting that they swore an oath to uphold the United States Constitution, which explicitly protects our freedom of religion. They turned our places of worship into political scapegoats. Influencers followed, making videos mocking our temples, ridiculing our faith, and calling peaceful Hindu devotees “demon worshippers.” You made hatred against Hindus acceptable. You normalized the demonization of our faith and our places of worship. And now, authorities have uncovered an alleged plot to massacre innocent Hindus at a temple. You don't get to spend months portraying a religious community as evil and then act shocked when someone plots to slaughter its worshippers. You may not have planned the attack, but you must answer for the hatred you promoted and the atmosphere you helped create. Our temples are not your political punching bags. Our faith is not your campaign prop. And our lives are not expendable. Shame on every politician and influencer who helped normalize this hatred.
