What a wonderful way to wrap up the inaugural @AmerMedicalAssn Coaching Summit! An inspiring plenary from @umichmedicine Whitney Williams, a high-energy closing Coaching Lab with Dr. Kerri Palamara, and two days filled with learning, connection, and an incredible community committed to advancing coaching. And a special bonus for me—the opportunity to record coaching podcasts with an amazing group of expert coaching faculty. So much wisdom to share, and so much more to come! Eight workshops—and still going strong! Today we kick off our 8th @AmerMedicalAssn AMA Academic Coaching Implementation Workshop in Chicago. When we offered the first workshop, I never imagined that years later there would still be such enthusiasm—and demand—for coming together to learn how to build, strengthen, and sustain coaching programs. It has been wonderful to watch this community grow and to see coaching become an increasingly important part of how we support learners, faculty, and lifelong learning. This year feels especially exciting because the workshop is just the beginning. We move directly from two days of learning and hands-on work into the inaugural AMA Coaching Summit, bringing an even broader community together to connect, share, and advance coaching across medical education. Grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey—and excited for what comes next! Let the coaching begin! #MedicalEducation #AcademicCoaching #Coaching #MedEd #MasterAdaptiveLearner @chemenmd . .

What if progression in residency were driven not only by time, but by demonstrated readiness for independent practice? Promotion in Place funded by the @AmerMedicalAssn is an exciting example of how competency-based medical education can move from concept to practice—allowing residents who have demonstrated readiness to transition into a period of “sheltered independence” as attending physicians within their own institution. I’m especially excited that this work is expanding across specialties, including our OB-GYN pilot @umichmedicine, and now through a national general surgery pilot. At its core, this work asks an important question for the future of graduate medical education: How can we build systems of assessment we trust enough to recognize when a learner is truly ready? Exciting to see innovation in GME continuing to challenge long-standing assumptions about how we train physicians. #MedicalEducation #GME #ReimaginingREsidency #CompetencyBasedMedicalEducation #CBME #ResidencyEducation #Innovation #ChangeMedED Watch the Promotion in Place video Here players.brightcove.net/62655…

Excited to share our newly published work in the Journal of Surgical Education examining Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) in residency training. ILPs have tremendous potential to support individualized, competency-based learning and still needed more structured approaches to goal setting, protected time for learners and faculty, meaningful faculty engagement, and better technology to support longitudinal tracking and reflection. As we continue moving toward CBME, how do we make ILPs truly useful to learners—helping them reflect, set meaningful goals, track their progress, and continually adapt their learning? #MedicalEducation #GraduateMedicalEducation #GME #SurgicalEducation #CompetencyBasedMedicalEducation #CBME #MedicalEducationResearch Individualized Learning Plans in Residency Training: Lessons for Surgi... sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Excited to share this new AMA article highlighting ResidencyCAS and what applicants should know as they prepare for the 2026–2027 residency application cycle. Improving the transition from medical school to residency has been a focus of my work for many years, and I’m grateful to the many learners, educators, program leaders, and organizations who continue to contribute to this effort. There is still much more we can do to make the residency application process more meaningful, transparent, and supportive for both applicants and programs. It is wonderful to see this work continuing to evolve. #ResidencyCAS #MedicalEducation #GME #OBGYN #MedEd ResidencyCAS tips for ob-gyn, emergency medicine GME applicants ama-assn.org/medical-student… (via @AmerMedicalAssn)

No one chooses to become a “high-acuity patient.” Michiganders deserve access to Michigan Medicine so we can be there when it matters most. As a @umichmedicine physician, I find this statement deeply concerning because it overlooks the very real people and families who depend on this level of care every day. Healthcare decisions should be guided by patient need — not by reducing patients to numbers or financial calculations. Having personally relied on this high-acuity care not long ago, this feels especially painful. There was a time when I genuinely did not know what my future would look like — whether I would fully recover, whether I would be able to continue the work I love, or even how different my life might have been without access to that level of care. That is why this conversation is not abstract to me. My heart breaks for the patients and families who may one day face those same moments of fear and uncertainty and worry they may not be able to access the care they need when it matters most. #MichiganMedicine #HealthcareAccess #PatientCare #AcademicMedicine #MothersDay #HealthEquity #ProtectPatients #MedicineMatters aol.com/news/blue-cross-oks-…
