I'm just going to assign a lot of reading this term. I know everyone is despairing about students' ability and willingness to read, but I worry about requiring less and less until it's not even clear why we're needed anymore.
If universities should have ideological diversity that reflects the country more broadly, why stop there? Why shouldn’t we have diversity in educational level or literacy that reflects the country too?

Threatening to “round up tenants” or call ICE because of someone’s national origin is blatant discrimination.
And in New York, it’s illegal. Any company engaging in it will be fined.
Report discrimination to @NYSHumanRights.
Today, we announced a $55,000 fine against an apartment complex in NYC for displaying a poster encouraging tenants to report immigrants to ICE based on national origin.
We're here to protect your rights as a New Yorker, no matter where you come from.

Most people assume that data centers pay for the electricity they use, instead of the utility companies passing the extra costs to their customers.
Every state can, and should do this too.

Trump is trying to bring to heel. Our university administration MUST refuse this unconstitutional compact. We call on graduate workers, undergraduates, faculty, and other affiliates of Vanderbilt to sign our petition.

ALT "“I wasn’t planning on letting her stay, but I didn’t know what the hell was going on,” the man said of his Venezuelan migrant neighbors. But he quickly relented. The little girl was inconsolable and hid under his bed. “I didn’t want them to take her,” said the man, who didn’t want to be named because he fears he’ll be targeted by federal authorities for his actions. “I gave her my bedroom, and I just told her, ‘Just stay there. Don’t open, don’t, shh, just stay quiet,’” he recalled telling the mom and daughter as he choked back tears."
During a military-style raid on a building in Chicago’s South Shore, one resident heard a knock on his door.
It wasn’t the feds — it was a mom and her 7-year-old daughter, pleading for help.
He let them hide in his unit for the next 3 days.

Tron: Aries is just conservative propaganda about how Asian (and Latino) model minority techies can save the world by allying with white men against black women. Really good example of why afropessimism is a theory that comes out of cinema studies
