see normal people don’t understand that a 285 million dollar contract isn’t really that much because you have to pay taxes and also have to pay someone to play a gold harp as your personal chef prepares your dinner
Jaylen Brown says he bought a gold harp, and now has someone come over twice a week to play it as the sun goes down while his chef cooks dinner “My favorite purchase, I think my best, my most favorite purchase was, I bought a harp. I bought like a gold harp. I got it upstairs too…” “I got a harpist that come play like twice a week. While the sun is going down, chef is in the kitchen. You know what I mean? Just…”

EXCLUSIVE: Elon Musk came to Donald Trump with the plan to throttle Ukraine’s use of SpaceX’s Starshield satellite internet network, sources have told the Telegraph. The tech billionaire made the proposal during the US President’s row with Volodymyr Zelensky over strikes on Russian oil refineries. ‘The reality is that they were both in it,’ a senior source said of Musk’s and Trump’s involvement. But after a night of carnage in Kyiv caused by the slowdown, Musk was alarmed about the possibility of adverse consumer reaction in Europe. The SpaceX boss then proceeded to tweet, blaming the US administration, and ultimately, President Trump for authorising the slowdown. ‘He tweeted out that he was innocent and that it was the US administration that did it,’ the source said.

"Collective punishment" is too nice a phrase
"Israel said that commercial goods will no longer enter the Gaza Strip, cutting off a key source of food and shelter supply for the war-torn territory as hungry Palestinians face the approach of winter." (🔗 below)

Billions of dollars’ worth of contracts predicting oil would fall and the S&P 500 would rise were placed about 15 minutes before Trump announced a U-turn on Iran in a post on Truth Social. CFTC staff began to investigate-- then were told to lay off. bloomberg.com/news/features/…

There are several flaws in this @NYT piece about Jeffrey Epstein's death. The biggest, however, is the reporters ignore the fact that someone else didn't need to get into that unit to kill him. The unit was filled with inmates capable of harming him -- and they were coming and going all day and even into the night. Epstein had a number on his back from the day he got there. The cameras weren't recording. It's simple to just leave a door unlocked and pay someone already on the inside to kill him. It remains frustrating that the Times fails to adequately address (with its enormous resources that I don't have) -- the massive corruption and fabricated reports in that facility that happened that night. The Times would have you believe that it was just accidental that he was left alone in his cell, and that killing him would have required a massive number of people. That simply is not true. youtu.be/uTsI2OTeSxk?si=HWMW… via @YouTube

The people in this thread commenting things like "why waste your time doing this when ai can do it for you" truly do not understand the point of life.
The stop-motion animation work behind LAIKA’s WILDWOOD (2026) is absolutely insane. 136 handcrafted sets, over 200 practical puppets and 49 animators working across 231 weeks, with some shots producing just 1–4 seconds of animation per week. @LAIKAStudios #Wildwood, #LAIKA_partner

typically great piece but this section in particular stopped me in my tracks
Spent a few weeks earlier this year roaming a Hollywood almost entirely reoriented around the production of “microdramas,” which are kind of like soap operas except they’re short and completely demented and optimized for your phone. Started as one kind of sad story and ended as another, differently sad kind of story. You can read it now in @NYTmag nytimes.com/2026/10/06/magaz…

A brilliantly terrrifying essay: “focusing on gambling alone only tells part of the story of this strange new development in culture. We are living through a kind of postpandemic gamified speculative-trading apocalypse of which traditional gambling is only one horseman.”
for the new york times magazine i wrote an essay about why everything is "gambling" now (the answer: actually everything is the statistical style now, and gambling is just how most of us understand that) nytimes.com/2026/10/04/magaz…
