Unpacking yet another poor Arsenal performance. Winless run extends to five games, a first for Arsenal in the WSL.

For the first time ever in the history of the @BarclaysWSL, Arsenal Women have gone five league games without a win. #ARSBIR

Sat down with Alessia Russo as she hosted the second edition of the Alessia Cup.
We spoke about her foundation, adjusting to life in the spotlight and how a sit down with the Arsenal psychologist the day before the Paris game led to goals.

Leaving aside FFP was a UEFA initiative from over two decades ago, being bought by a nation state so you can dominate the league over a long period is not a desirable system in any way, shape or form for myriad reasons. If you want greater competitiveness, you need more regulation, not less.

Mariona out for '8-10 weeks' with a hamstring injury (confirming our story from last week 🧐). Selina Cerci has had knee surgery due to some issues that had been causing her some problems. Understand it's a 'clean up' job and not major knee surgery. I asked and Slegers confirmed that has been a factor in Cerci's minutes so far this season.

It really is such a stupid qualifying system. In order to qualify for the World Cup, England will have to beat Ukraine over two legs: a team they already beat twice in the group stage

Never ask an Olivier Giroud hater what Alexis Sanchez was up to in the 15/16 season. Or what Theo Walcott was up to in the 15/16 season. Or what Aaron Ramsey was up to in the 15/16 season. Or what Mesut Ozil was up to in 2016

This stuff is in my mind way too much. This is a great conversation on the City Subject
“94% of clubs are making losses”
“20% of PL clubs are technically insolvent”
Yet some people think removing spending regulations would be a good thing
🚨 The Independent Football Regulator has released its 'State of the Game' report. It highlights a game loaded with both revenue and risk.
- Clubs brought in £9bn in revenue in 2025/26.
- English teams receive an average of £80m from qualifying for the UCL. Chelsea won over £84m for winning the Club World Cup in 2025.
- Clubs have grown 10x faster than the UK economy since 1992.
- And yet 94% of clubs still make losses.
- 32 clubs stated they couldn't survive 30 days without owner funding.
- 20% of Premier League clubs and 60% of EFL and National League teams are technically insolvent.
- Sale of select assets, such as a women's team or a hotel, to comply with financial rules is termed 'creative compliance', and something the IFR will proactively look at.
- Report notes "increased enforcement and litigation could raise costs and reduce the attractiveness of investing in English football."
- Recommendations include a focus on revenue distribution, reducing losses, financial and corporate governance, and formulation a National League-specific strategy.
Other points from today's Manchester launch:
- IFR has within its power the right to force Manchester City's owners to sell, or assess #MCFC's license, if they deem the Premier League charges warrant this. Won't get involved until the case, inclusive of appeals, has concluded.
- Chair David Kogan reiterated he will resign if he ever feels the IFR's independence is compromised. "My independence is absolute".
- Confidence the EPL and EFL will agree a new funding deal soon. EPL add: "We believe the proposal we have made to the EFL, which was unanimously approved by Premier League clubs in July, meets the objectives the IFR has set out in its Report. The League remains committed to concluding a long-term partnership with the EFL that is fair, generous and balances the interests of all clubs."

No it’s not hypocritical 😅
I’m talking about my striker diving for a penalty, me stopping a ball going over the line with my hand!
I’m not talking about 900M in fake sponsorship over a number of years 🤯😅
😬 "He's been caught in a hypocritical moment!"
🤷♂️ "But that doesn't alter what he's saying about Man City!"

Coventry have gone away to City and Arsenal and are level on points with the Man Utd (statistically easiest start in the league this season fixture wise)

A freak show that emphasised the farce of the Premier League's current unreality
The response of City fans, which does complicate some of the discussion
I think they are "victims" but that's harder when you're revelling in it (before the win)

When you are exposed for cheating financial rules, at least you can still fall back on help from your friends at PGMOL to gift you a ghost winner at Old Trafford and a generous game changing decision at Anfield….

This idea that the City players have of course done nothing wrong
I mean yes obviously they weren’t the ones doing the cheating, but if you join a club with 115 charges against them - as most of them did - reasonable chance you’re going to be playing for a team in this position!
