Some scripts can’t be written — Scott McTominay, Naples, and the beauty of football ⚪️🩵🏆 Every professional footballer’s career is an unwritten script—shaped by individual confidence, a self-fulfilling belief in their talent, and the ability to rise among the best. To fight your way from the grassroots of youth football into the junior ranks, then break through into a first team—and to sculpt your name among the few who can call themselves winners on football’s biggest stage. That journey is long. The obstacles are many. And the chances? Almost zero. So if someone had told a five-year-old Scott McTominay, just walking into the youth academy at Manchester United, that he would one day rise all the way to the senior squad—and then, years later, crown his career with a historic league title far away in southern Europe, in Italy, in Napoli—no one would have believed it Naples. The nerve center of football passion. A city and a place where football isn’t just DNA—it’s the very fiber that makes life worth living. Where the passion burns deeper, the chants ring louder, the tears fall heavier, and love becomes worship when someone climbs the mountains of triumph in blue and white. The kind of love that knows no equal. The kind of appreciation that lives forever. That Scott McTominay is standing on that mountaintop tonight—as one of the most decisive players in a Napoli squad that few believed in—feels surreal. And yet, it’s real. Last season, he fought to prove himself once again at Manchester United. He showed he could be a difference-maker, a goal-scorer, a match-winner higher up the pitch. But he wasn’t given the long-term trust. So he was sold. To Napoli. And under pressure, in a squad written off on paper as too weak to challenge Inter—he not only adapted. He became essential. Tonight, he helped deliver the ultimate prize for his home fans. And not just with his presence—but with a bicycle kick that will be painted on walls, sung about in chants, and remembered by generations in Naples. A moment that became immortal the second his boot struck the air. As a Manchester United supporter, I can’t even begin to describe the pride I feel for this journey. On a week when my own club is going through one of its darkest periods, one of our very own has climbed one of football’s highest peaks. Against the odds. Outside his comfort zone. And tonight, he lifts—not just Italy’s most prestigious trophy—but the heart of an entire city. He carries their hopes. Their love. And this, I believe, is only the beginning of what could become a truly special career. Some scripts can’t be written. Some stories can’t be predicted. But it’s moments like these that make life, and football, truly beautiful. Because anything is possible—as long as there’s ability, as long as there’s will, and as long as there’s a heart that beats for the badge on your chest. Tonight, we honour the moment. We honour the story. To Scott McTominay—whose journey from Manchester to Naples has stunned us all. To Antonio Conte—who took a team doubted by many and turned them into believers. And to Napoli—as a team, as a city, as a people—who together climbed to the summit of Italian football. Champions of Serie A. Champions in every sense of the word. @sscnapoli
