I feel weird even writing this, because this is going to be me putting more about my personal life into the public eye than I ever have, but I think if this even pushes a single person in a better direction it's worth the awkwardness for me. I just found out last night that one of my best friends from high school was found ODed outside on the street in Chicago yesterday. He'd been living on the streets the last year. I hadn't talked to him in years. It's not the stories I've heard since I've cut ties, or where he was in life in the end that's stuck on my mind. It's all the times before that when I still hung out with him. It's every occasional time I did something with him, and signaled my tacit approval, even if that was the occasional exception and not the norm. It was every day I drunkenly turned him being out of control into a joke, and signaled my tacit approval. It was me participating in normalizing his poor choices, normalizing his self-destructive behavior, making him feel like what he was doing was okay, was acceptable and unconcerning to his friends and the people who cared about him. That's what I regret, not voicing those internal reactions earlier. Not speaking out and discouraging those self-destructive choices earlier. Not making clear when it was still him mentally in the driver seat, and not a full blown addiction, that the choices he was making were unacceptable. That he should be embarrassed and ashamed to be making them. Don't make that mistake when you see someone in your life being self-destructive. Don't ignore that little voice in your head and brush it off with an excuse like "he's just dealing with a lot" or "everyone deserves to let loose every once and a while. Listen to that little voice as soon as you hear it. Speak up while that person you care about is still there to hear you, before something else besides them is what is listening to you in between their ears. Once they aren't really themselves anymore, there isn't really anyone to listen, or feel that shame, or reconsider the poor choices they're making. You can't help them anymore. Speak up before they get to that point. Listen to that little voice in your head.

Introducing LexeConnect: a new protocol to connect a Lexe wallet to your app in one tap. Your app requests the scopes it needs. The user taps Approve in Lexe. Your app receives a scoped, revocable credential and can now receive, pay, or read from the user's wallet. Full video 👇

Shoutout to @jonhbit, who rebuilt the @mitDCI vending machine to accept Lightning payments, using Lexe as the receiving wallet! - Accepts payments to a static payment address: ₿[email protected], payable as a Lightning Address or Human Bitcoin Address (BIP 353) - Vending machine holds only a view-only client credential to its Lexe wallet, root seed held on a separate device - Infinite inbound liquidity provided by Lexe - Historically sold only Soylent, the pinnacle of human cuisine
Its been 10 years, time for an update This is way easier with Lightning and providers like @lexeapp . Opus and I coded the receive logic in maybe 90 mins - redoing the wiring took longer. Thanks to @Arminsdev , @neha , and the @mitDCI team for keeping this alive 🙏 Demo:

Some friends of ours built a Lightning e-commerce stack on top of @lexeapp 👀
A new kind of Bitcoin payment gateway just dropped. Zaptrain is now live! @getzaptrain: • Helps you accept Lightning payments • Hosts checkout flows and payment links for you • Doesn't have any control of your funds • No KYC or bank details required Repeat: You can now accept Lightning payments while running 0 infrastructure yourself, without giving anyone control over your funds! How does Zaptrain work? Using Lexe's new credential scopes feature, you can now create a revocable credential with receive-only access to your Lexe wallet, and give it to Zaptrain. Zaptrain can create invoices and check on payment status on your behalf - and nothing more. Zaptrain hosts payment links, a checkout flow, a payment tracking web portal, and a REST API for you. Powered by the Lexe SDK and Lexe's self-custodial Bitcoin infrastructure. Video below 👇

[B@B 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY] 🎊 10 years ago, a group of Berkeley students came together to learn about Bitcoin and educate each other on a technology they believed could change the world. They probably didn’t know that, a decade later, that little group would blossom into one of Berkeley’s top tech communities and bring together some of the most ambitious, thoughtful, kind, and absolutely cracked people we know. Over the last 10 years, B@B has been home to some insane startups and even crazier ideas. But more importantly, it’s given us lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, and a ridiculous amount of laughter along the way. B@B turned 10 this year, and one reunion simply wasn’t enough. So, in true blockchain fashion, we forked it, hosting anniversary celebrations on both coasts and bringing together alumni from across a decade of B@B. Some highlights: - A photo wall of 10 years of our most wholesome moments, walking down memory lane - Custom engraved Ledgers for our alumni made by our own @DivijMot @createdbymason - A tres leches “10 Years of B@B & Boujee” cake courtesy of former-pres @Ridddhiiii - Lots of old lore, reunions, and questionable stories resurfacing

This brutal slaying from yesterday is actually getting attention, as the victim was a highly-regarded pediatric doctor, but the details of the savage scene that unfolded near Pittsburgh, PA - and the ongoing insanity of our "justice" system - must be fully articulated. In the overnight hours between Wednesday night and Tuesday morning, a Black criminal - already out on zero-dollar bail for first-degree felony burglary and third-degree felony theft - broke into the home of a White 46-year-old doctor named Idris Evans and his family. The soon-to-be killer, Black 32-year-old Elijah Hemingway, ascended to the third floor of the home and entered the bedroom of Idris and his wife, Gina, as the couple slept. Kitchen knife in hand, wearing nothing but his underwear, Hemingway attacked Idris and Gina while screaming about himself “being God.” Upon the couple's rapid awakening, a brutal struggle unfolded in the bedroom. The scene was described as extremely violent, with broken furniture, smashed mirrors, and blood covering the floor and walls. As Hemingway repeatedly plunged the knife into Idris and Gina Evans, Gina screamed aloud to awaken their 8 and 12-year-old children, bellowing for them to flee the house. The children did, and escaped unharmed. Gina eventually managed to escape, as well, surviving multiple severe stab wounds and lacerations. Idris, however, bled out and died in his own bedroom where, minutes before, he had been peacefully asleep with his wife, hours from awakening for another day of duty at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. It's too early for autopsy results, so a full inventory of the injuries inflicted upon Idris is unavailable. Elijah Hemingway is charged with criminal homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated assault, burglary, criminal trespass, and possessing instruments of crime. The argument used to successfully expand the no-money bail policy Hemingway was out on was framed in explicitly racial terms, focusing on claims of an inverted reality in which the justice system gives preferential treatment to White defendants. Groups including the ACLU of Pennsylvania and the Abolitionist Law Center argued that cash bail was - can you guess - “racist!” They pointed to higher incarceration rates for Blacks, and the need to change that, as though it's not an observable fact of reality across the whole of planet Earth that Blacks commit crime at the highest rates, and are thusly incarcerated at higher rates - all despite the system being OPENLY manipulated in their favor. And, of course, it worked. As it always does. Consequently, Elijah Hemingway was free to wander the streets, wander into the Evans' home, wander up to their third floor master bedroom, and viciously slaughter a beloved White children's doctor. America: DEI until you die. (In an endless onslaught of one-way interracial homicide.)

A new Lexe SDK version has been released, available for Rust, Python, Sidecar (JSON REST API), and CLI. This release adds a new `pay_onchain` method. In combination with `open_channel` and `close_channel`, you can now build apps that periodically close your channels sweep funds out of your Lexe wallet. We've also tweaked our APIs to have clearer semantics and better control for payment idempotency. Read the docs: docs.lexe.tech/

Opus 5.5 is a very effective model but ultimately still has small model smell. Doesn't think broadly enough, work is not as fleshed out / complete, and is not as capable as Fable at inferring intent. Best for narrow, well-defined tasks IMO. Fable still SOTA at systems thinking.

The day after she made this post, she was found dead Hsin-Ju was one of the nicest people I met and made this industry feel inclusive May you rest in peace @hsinju 💜
1/ gm. gm. Name is Hsin-Ju. I have a dark, kinda tragic personal announcement. I've decided I'd rather take $0 than accept a settlement that requires me to stay silent about what happened to me. I have since fired my lawyers at @sanfordheisler & will be releasing all the evidence from my time @hack_vc on Wed 8/26. INTRO: I've been in crypto for 9 years. Most recently I was a partner & head of platform @hack_vc which is a $600-700M crypto VC firm. Many of you may know me from my time as Head of Growth at @StellarOrg in 2017 (worked w/ the Mt. Gox founder), @Solana in 2018 (joined under ~10 ppl, but quit before my cliff), & @Fhenix in 2024. Or have attended one of my @DystopiaLabs ETH events (2019-now). Last year, I was forced to work through a serious medical emergency while at @Hack_VC due to threats by @alpackaP @dbulaevsky, saying that they would blacklist me from the space if I quit before finishing the hacksummit conference & side events that I was helping with during @kbwofficial. I was working 13-14hr days, 6 days a week, sleeping 0-4 hrs a night, and had documented Graves' disease, hyperthyroidism, and severe insomnia. I repeatedly asked to quit. Hack VC refused. This + other threats and intimidation went on for almost a month. The conditions got so bad I attempted suicide. The fucked up part is that, even after the suicide attempt, I told everyone at Hack VC (in writing) that I had no plans to sue. I was scared & extremely sick. I just wanted to leave. I told them that as long as there was no retaliation or badmouthing - I had no plans to sue. @Hack_VC chose to retaliate. After just 1 month after my near suicide, Hack VC mishandled my COBRA health insurance, refused to fix things, kept shooing me to customer support (when it's legally Hack VC's responsibility to fix this), and my insurance had issues and was not fixed for almost 4 MONTHS. Hack VC did not fix everything until I hired lawyers and had them force Hack VC to adhere to the law & fix my COBRA insurance issues. The sheer cruelty of an employer harming someone's health insurance almost immediately after they nearly committed suicide is extremely fucked up. And, even during the legal engagement, Hack VC continued to lie & attempt to harm me through their lawyers and other employees/partners (multi-million dollar carry & clawbacks can make even the nicest ppl willing to turn the other way or lie). @0xRodney @IsTheBaron @roshunpatel @Alex__Botte. Now. Almost an entire year of engagement & my near suicide anniversary coming up, our lawyers (mine & Hack VC's) have reached the point of preparing for private mediation and settlement. And...I realized that I just can't do it. I don't want money in exchange for silence. I'd rather speak. I fired my lawyers yesterday. In case it needs to be said, I did a good job at Hack VC. I was only there full time for 7 months; been part-time since 2021. I got a $50k raise to $300k, $30k bonus, and promises of additional carry that would have been implemented about a week or so after my last day. I was also offered admission into the GP entity (but not sure if admission was actually completed bc it was during my medical emergency). This + my resume, should show that me suing is not a money grab; I was genuinely harmed. I'm aware that I'm just one person (who is not rich) facing a $600-700M VC institution. I've been told by @alpackaP that he's known most of the managing partners at most VC firms for almost a decade and he could absolutely blacklist me. I'm also painful aware that the conclusion of this will probably be extremely poor for me or death - but I've accepted it. Sharing with other web2 & web3 VCs: @paulg @ycombinator @500STARTUPS @a16zcrypto @PanteraCapital @dragonflyvc @RaceCapital @hosseeb @haunventures @hiFramework @ElectricCapital @blockchaincap @Delphi_Digital @variantfund @1kxnetwork @archetypevc @shimacapital @robotventures, etc. TLDR; I’m done with continued threats, pressure, and intimidation. I'm not going to take a payout and allow Alex or Hack VC to walk away from harming me. As mentioned, I'll be dropping the evidence from my case on Wed 8/26 (or before) -- privacy be damned.
