Israel’s national nightmare is not over, not all the hostages are being freed and the war against Hamas will continue. But those saying that this is a victory for Hamas have got it wrong: 1) Israel is getting hostages back without ending the war. 2) Trump made clear that never again will Gaza be a safe haven for terrorists. 3) Every senior member of Trump’s foreign policy team — Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth in their testimony and Mike Waltz in his media appearances — have said unequivocally that Hamas must be eradicated. 4) The daylight between Biden and Netanyahu that empowered Hamas and incentivized it to hold back on a hostage deal is at an end. Hamas knows that its days are numbered — that’s why it made this deal. 5) Israel has degraded Hamas massively and has gained enormous intel over the past 15 months. When, inevitably, it continues this battle it will prevail decisively. Today is not about winning or losing the war. Today is about bringing an end to human suffering for at least some hostages. I pray that all hostages are released within the next 6 weeks, following which the Hamas terror state exists no more.
