yeah, this is an example of how people who talk about politics for a living map their own conceptualization of ideology onto all voters. this is problematic and leads to all sorts of bad takes and strategy gelliottmorris.com/p/the-str…

Somehow, in certain quarters, it has come to be seen as a personal failing to devote one’s life to improving the world around you. It isn’t “downwardly mobile” to choose, after college, to be a teacher, a city councilor or an artist. It’s just a different kind of ambition.

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

🚨 NEW INVESTIGATION: As Columbia University ramped up its crackdown on pro-Palestine protesters over the past three years, the Ivy League institution was paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to pro-Israel groups, according to a review of tax filings. Recipients of the cash included AIPAC's charity arm, the Israel on Campus Coalition, and others.
👉 Though the university gave in smaller amounts to pro-Israel groups before October 7, 2023, the spending ramped up in that fiscal year as the genocide in Gaza unfolded and students at Columbia led the way in a national campus protest movement against it.
👉 In the fiscal year ending in June 2024, Columbia paid $100,000 to the Israel on Campus Coalition and another $75,000 to AIPAC affiliate American Israel Education Foundation.
In the same period, the Columbia administration summarily suspended the pro-Palestine student groups Jewish Voice for Peace and Students for Justice in Palestine, quashed the encampments in solidarity with Gaza, and called on the NYPD to arrest pro-Palestine protesters on campus on two separate occasions.
👉 Over the past decade, Columbia has paid AIPAC’s charity arm $250,000, with another $75,000 payment in the fiscal year ending in June 2023 and a $100,000 payment in the one ending in June 2017.
👉 In the fiscal year ending in June 2025, Columbia paid $7,200 to the Anti-Defamation League for “program services.” In the same period, the ADL welcomed the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil, a lead Columbia protest negotiator, by federal immigration officials.

I wrote about who determines what is “electable” in our media. Overwhelmingly it’s “moderate” pundits who are allowed to bash progressives without any disclosure they’re funded by Corporate America, billionaires and health insurance lobbyists and thus not neutral commentators.
The media is propping up “centrist” analysts warning that the progressive and democratic socialist candidates winning elections are “unelectable.” But they’re not disclosing those analysts are funded by billionaires and mega-corps: by @adamjohnsonCHI

Yup. People have to submit annual recertifications just to stay in their homes or on Medicaid. The only reason centrists think it’s costless to means-test essential government programs is because they don’t care about poor people’s time and anxiety like they do for rich people.

CDC cuts back foodborne illness surveillance program
The CDC's FoodNet program has reduced required surveillance from eight foodborne pathogens to two, a move some experts warn could leave the country more vulnerable to outbreaks.
