My friend and co-worker @calvinmfloyd just released the grobblR R package on CRAN. We've been using it internally at the Kings for a while to create our PDF reports and I'm excited that now everyone gets the chance to try it out!
Excited to announce grobblR 0.1.0 is on CRAN! 🎉🎊
The #rstats package which allows users the ability to intuitively create flexible, reproducible PDF reports comprised of aesthetically pleasing tables, images, plots and/or text.

In advance of our #NESSIS poster presentation on Home Court Advantages for NCAA Statistics, @LukeBornn, @pachowwhite, @chuancong, and I have posted the full paper on arXiv. We examine home/away/neutral differences, scorekeeper and referee biases and more!

Excited to launch a web app I've been working on: mvanbommel.shinyapps.io/SacC…
The app provides an interactive visualization of the open data set for Sacramento's police dispatch data.
Also published a post about the project on my website: matthewvanbommel.com/project…
Super cool new tool to examine the shooting trends of NBA players!
Just released Shotline: #nba shooting #dataviz. Explore players' shooting development over time in 100 shot moving windows.

I'm a little late to the game, but if you haven't yet seen this great video about @IveShery13 and her role with the 76ers analytics team, I highly recommend giving it a watch!

Happy to announce the launch of my website redesign: matthewvanbommel.com
I also wrote a post about the design process and the lessons I learned: matthewvanbommel.com/project…
This is my first deep dive into designing a site, so any feedback is welcomed!

This is a good reminder that blocks, like assists, are subjective and susceptible to scorekeeper bias. Research by Matthew van Bommel and @LukeBornn demonstrates the extent of the issue for the NBA, and I imagine it applies to college basketball as well. arxiv.org/abs/1602.08754
Here’s an instance where I get concerned that all of our stats are just compromised, and simply inaccurate. This blocked shot was credited to Rui Hachimura #21 when it’s clearly Brandon Clarke.
