When I was vilified during a 2013 Australian Rules Football game, a young trans girl who hadn’t come out to her family was there to witness it. She saw her football club, her friends, and even her own family call me a freak.
That night, thirteen years ago, my little trans sister told me she wanted to die. She said, "Look how strong you are, Kirsti," and yet they still attacked you.
I promised my little sister I would never stop fighting until everyone has the right to play.
Seeing my sister and myself represented on the @carltonfc_w Pride Jumper all these years later fills me with pride. Watching @carltonfc_w stand up for everyone’s right to play the game is more meaningful than any premiership. Inclusion is bigger than the game.
